Globe to deploy infrastructures in MRT-3 stations

Apart from lighting up the 700MHz aimed to improve efficiency in mobile data, Globe Telecom will build its own wireless infrastructures throughout MRT-3.

Just today, the telco company has signed an agreement with the Metro Railway Transit Corporation (MRTC) allowing them to deploy macro sites and small cells to help decongest the massive data traffic in train stations and its surrounding areas. Globe’s Senior Vice President for Program Governance, Network Technical Group Joel Agustin said that this move will further enhance the digital lifestyle of Globe customers even while on their way to work or after work.

Apart from this, Globe will also provide free Wi-Fi services, similar to those in malls, but limited only to 30-minutes daily. While we wait for this to happen, just imagine the riders of MRT-3 playing Clash of Clans while waiting for the trains to arrive.

Globe fires up first 700MHz cell site in Quezon City

A week after the big Globe-PLDT acquisition of San Miguel’s precious low-frequency high-value 700MHz, Globe has just tested the broadcast through the said frequency.

Through their Globe ICON Facebook page, the telco has announced that they just turned the keys on for the first cell site in Diliman, Quezon City. Using 700MHz supported devices, initial tests showed around 30 to 100Mbps internet speed. This is about 3x faster than our usual mobile internet speeds when in a good day.

As stated in the post, this is just the first of many areas where Globe will send out faster LTE speeds through the 700MHz band. The question now is, what’s the actual speed when more users started utilizing the new network?
