ASUS ZenFone 4, 5, and 6 get Lollipop update

Finally after being delayed on its supposed arrival, the ASUS ZenFone 4, ZenFone 5, and ZenFone 6 will now be getting its Android Lollipop fix. The update includes improvements, additions, and even some removals.

The changes for the new OS update are as follows:

  • Removal of pre-installed apps like battery widget, PhotoFrame widget, Movie Studio, Cloud Print, CMClient, and Magic Smoke Wallpapers
  • New lockscreen with removed standalone wallpaper and weather details
  • Revamped Dialler and Contacts
  • Removal of in-call animation and cover
  • Addition of My Ocean wallpaper
  • Day Scene Live Wallpaper
  • TripAdvisor
  • ASUS auto-start service manager app
  • Improved VOIP phone call and music function

The updates were reported to be already available via over-the-air, but it’s also downloadable over at the official ASUS ZenTalk forum.

ASUS Zenfone Selfie now official

As we have previously reported, ASUS was indeed planning to add a new member to their Zenfone family as they launch an imaging-centric smartphone dubbed as the Zenfone Selfie.

ASUS Zenfone Selfie specs:
5.5-inch Full HD IPS display @ 1920 x 1080 resolution, 403ppi
Corning Gorilla Glass 4
Snapdragon 615 octa-core processor
13MP rear camera with dual-tone flash with laser auto-focus
13MP front camera with dual-tone flash, 88-degree wide angle lens, and f/2.2 aperture

In addition, it’s also reported to have an optional Swing attachment that could help extend your reach for selfies, while also doubling for a kickstand.

Word on the street is that ASUS is set to unveil a new member of the Zenfone family called the Selfie. As the name suggests, its focus is a powerful front camera.

Reports suggest that a 13-megapixel camera is placed up front to take those precious selfies. They are accompanied by dual LED flash for capturing decent shots while on low-lit places. As for the rear shooter, another 13MP sensor is used.

It could also have a 5.5-inch display according to GSMArena. Although for its launch, we expect it to be introduced at Computex this first week of June since ASUS Philippines posted the above photo earlier today with the caption, “Which new #Zenfone family member will be unveiled at #Computex15? Hint: You will See the Perfect You, also known as _____.”

13-megapixel or not, we could expect this camera-centric device to be priced competitively just like its siblings. Stay tuned for more details.
