Facebook News Feed redesign coming up!

Facebook is continuing to maintain its position by introducing new stuff every now and then. We have another update to the news feed coming in a while, and it’s designed to unify the interfaces across platforms and make it uniform.

Goodbye clutter, hello bright & beautiful stories - that’s what Facebook is trying to do here. Basically, it’s meaning to simplify everything to work similarly with its iOS and Android counterparts. It features the same menu that slides out on the left side, with your usual stuff on top (notifications, friend requests and messages), while stories are now enclosed in rounded rectangles and are more media-centric.

FB

Somehow, we can’t help but feel that Facebook took a page from Google Plus’ design language. Moreover, Facebook says that the update will allow you to further customize the news feed contents.

If you want to be one of those who’ll get it first, you can sign up here. We’re not expecting it anytime soon, since the same instance happened with Graph Search; some of us signed up and yet there’s no word nor trial.

We’ve read on some reactions to this, and some people were just like “a dislike button would have been better” or something more objective like “fix the Facebook Android app first (No internet connection)“. Does a redesign make sense? Of course, changes are inevitable, but is it supposed to be prioritized over other little things? Facebook has a position to defend, and we have yet to see how they shall protect their standing on the industry.

Introducing our homegrown Employment Social Network

We’ve been thinking about this new project for a long time now and it looks like we’re already nearing our beta launch so I’d like to give a few folks an early preview of this site we’re working on.

We’ve been looking for a better jobs listing or jobs search site for a long time but most of the time we ended getting the recommendations of friends or former colleagues. This is the reason why we’re building this site — to get better employment recommendations, by friends or former officemates or anyone you worked with before.

So instead of launching just another jobs listing as part of this site, we’re pushing it a bit further and make it more social.

And yes, it’s a bit of a bold move to call it Yuga as shown in the logo above and the use of the domain yuga.es as our domain is a play on the domain extension. If you’re interested with what we’re working on, you can sign up for a notification here: reserve.yuga.es so you can take an early peek once we go to the beta period.

Instagram feeds can now be viewed on the browser

Ever since the launch of the online photo-sharing app, Instagram users are limited to the app when checking their feeds. In recent times, however, co-founder and CEO Kevin Systrom announced that feeds can now be accessed on the browser.

In a blog post, Systrom mentioned that it’s only logical for users to be able to access their feeds at any given time and on any device they chose to, including desktop browsers. Furthermore, other features of the service such as liking and engaging in a conversation via comments are also available on the web version of the service.

Instagram

Unfortunately, the browser version of Instagram doesn’t support photo upload. “We do not offer the ability to upload from the web as Instagram is about producing photos on the go, in the real world, in realtime. On the other hand, Instagram for the web is focused on making the browsing experience a fast, simple and enjoyable one” explained by Mr Systrom.
