Facebook introduces Embedded Posts

Facebook has just rolled out a new feature called “Embedded Posts” which makes it possible for people to add public posts from the social networking site to their blog or website.

When embedded, posts can include pictures, videos, hashtags and other content. People can also like and share the post directly from the embed. Do note that only posts set to public can be embedded on other websites.

To embed a public post onto a website just follow these steps:

1. Go to the post you want to embed
2. Click the boxed “v” icon in the top right of the post and select Embed Post
3. Copy and paste the code that appears and add it to your own website or web page

If you’ve embedded a post onto a website but then change the audience from Public, a message saying the embedded post is no longer available will appear on the website.

The Embedded Posts feature is currently being rolled out so expect it to be available soon.

CANA goes live, SNS for better governance!

There’s no denying the fact that Filipinos are fond of using social media to share just about anything under the sun. Whether that’s good or not, various groups saw this as an opportunity to finally put Juan’s SNS addiction to good use by turning it as a tool to promote better governance.

CANA

CANA or Citizen Action Network for Accountability is a joint project between IWPR (Institute for War and Peace Reporting), CCJD (Centre for Community Journalism and Development), MindaNews and NUJP (National Union of Journalists of the Philippines) which aims to use to social media as a vessel to report current situation in a particular area all throughout the archipelago.

Rorie Fajardo, CANA Project Manager and PHRRP (Philippine Human Rights Reporting Project), further elaborates the crowd-sourced project by saying this in the press release:

“CANA is built on the belief that the more we as ordinary Filipinos can start to understand how local government works, the more we can monitor, engage, shape – and ultimately ensure it is always working for us,”

To maximize the coverage, the team plans to setup not less than 28 local citizen action groups in various locations including remote (and dangerous areas if I may add) areas like Basilan, Maguindanao and Basilan.

The team is also optimistic that these action groups will eventually grow in number as more of our countrymen become aware of how CANA can be used to improve our society. To achieve this, CANA’s site will eventually contain tools/contents that will make its member better understand how they can participate in this advocacy.

CANA1

KAYO ANG BOSS KO! that’s what our current president said during his inaugural speech some three years ago. But as good as it may sound to some; majority of our fellow countrymen still feels that their struggles remain unheard by the government. Hopefully through this project, it will be easier for the current administration to address the needs of its people.

If you want to take part of this online project you can do so by subscribing to their Facebook page or by heading over to source link below.

Magmulat. Magsama-sama. Makialam.

YouTube live-streams Wimbledon 2013

All eyes are on London, England right now as this year’s Wimbledon have recently commenced. Although the video-sharing site has already participated in this momentous sporting event in the past, this year marks the first time that YouTube will bring the action closer to netizens by streaming live matches for free.

The service is made possible through a sponsorship from Rolex. Having said this, expect ads from the premium watch maker during breaks or load time (maybe even pop-ups). But given the level of access that one would get from it, we think that it’s a pretty small price to pay.

Speaking of access, apart from the selected matches that will be aired live, Wimbledon YouTube channel will also show give online watchers exclusive access to interviews, press conferences and the ability to relive key highlights during the event.

Unfortunately, Philippines is not included in YouTube’s shortlist of countries where live matches will be streamed. Don’t worry though as there are a few tricks that you can do to fool the system into thinking that you’re viewing the service from one of the supported countries (seen on the via link below). That is of course if you’re willing to take the necessary risk for the game you love.
