Android 5.1.1 update brings RAW function to Galaxy S6 camera

Taking your phone photography skills to the next level? Users of the Samsung Galaxy S6 will soon have the capability to shoot RAW on the Android 5.1.1 update — just like with DSLRs.

People have been expecting this feature to arrive with the Android Lollipop 5.1 update, but were disappointed after seeing that there was no such option. It turns out that Samsung is planning to unlock this added function when 5.1.1 rolls out. With it, users can now go as low as 50 ISO on its manual camera settings which is the lowest that most DSLRs can normally go. Manual control over the sensor’s shutter speed is also possible.

It’s also been reported that for the features to work, a Galaxy S6 is needed with a camera app “that has full support for Lollipop’s Camera2 API.” All these manual settings and improved capabilities would add nicely to our 5 Tips to Improve Smartphone Photos article.

Facebook will know how long you’ve been looking at a post

In an attempt to “improve” your browsing experience, Facebook announces a new way to measure what you like or don’t like to see in your news feed. This is apparently done by determining how long you look at a specific post.

The new algorithm starts a timer when you stop at a certain post while scrolling through your feed. It also knows if you’re browsing the comments section in which it “learns” that you like that content even if you didn’t give it a Like or commented on it.

In contrast, scroll past it and the system will know that it’s something that doesn’t interest you, giving you less of those kinds of content in the future.

The update was reported to be taking effect in the coming weeks. The company also mentions that those who have accounts on Pages wouldn’t be affected so much by this rollout.
