Twitter 5 for Android, Holo UI: preview & download

Google aims at bringing its Holo UI across all of the Android ecosystem, and we all know its coming to apps such as Twitter. We’ve managed to get the APK file already, and so far it’s looking pretty good. Here’s a preview of Twitter 5.0 for Android.

TWITTER

In terms of Twitter functionality, not much has changed. Aesthetically, a slide-out menu has been added to the left side. Your Twitter header is over at the background, blurred similar to Windows Aero & iOS 7.

Sliding across tabs still functions the same way, but this time you get all 7 tabs (slightly cluttered). You may rearrange the order of the said tabs through the slide-out menu, but you can’t hide it. We hope that changes in the final version.

All-in-all, everything is just lighter & faster to go through. However, we would like to remind everyone that Twitter version 5.0 is still in Beta so you might to wait for it to graduate and officially reach the Play Store.

But if you want to give it a try you can download it here.

Twitter for Android gets Holo update

iOS has Twitter to their liking, while Windows Phone’s iteration is already following their Modern UI. What about Android? Well, here it is – Twitter 4.0, the update you might have been waiting for.

Most of the update is visual. Gone are the iOS-like gradients and 3D-buttons for design language as it employs a flatter UI across the app. The curved element of the edges are also gone, and the experience feels more boxy – but not to a point that it feels like Windows Phone.

By swiping across the screen (no need to press buttons), you can get to your Home, Connect, Discover & Me tabs. Also, the other major change is the font used as it takes charge with Roboto, Android’s font. The other thing that saw improvement is the way use the #hashtag as suggestions now appear.

There was one thing Twitter missed however. Windows 8 already has a Twitter app, and the iPad has tablet-optimized app — when Android doesn’t have a tablet optimized one, which makes viewing Twitter on 10-inch screens a mess.

Here’s a hands-on preview video:
