PDLT HOME shows off Intel’s TVolution Stick

PLDT HOME unveils another first in the OTT (over-the-top) devices category its latest TVolution Stick. In partnership with tech company Intel, this dongle-sized gizmo aims to turn your ordinary TV into an Internet TV. Check out what it has to offer after the break.

The Compute Stick-based TVolution Stick works by plugging it into the HDMI slot of a television and the stick will turn the TV into a full-functioning computer that can stream movies, search the wen, send and receive emails, and other tasks that are usually accomplished on a PC.

On a limited run only until November 30, new subscribers of DSL Plans 999 and up and all PLDT HOME Fibr plans who apply online will get this nifty gadget for free, along with popular content from Fox, iflix and Spinnr.

Xiaomi outs super slim 4K TV…and a water purifier

Xiaomi has been known to have introduced and sold obscure products in the past. Well it seems like there’s no stopping the Chinese company from dipping its toes outside of the smartphone market as they introduce the super slim Mi TV 2S and a water purifier.

The Mi TV 2S is also reported to be able to display a full, uncompressed YUV 4:4:4 gamut in 4K at 60fps — a feature usually seen only on high-end displays. It is expected to sell in China for $485 (approx. Php22K) this July 28. Users can also opt to go for the package that comes with its own sound bar, which will total to $645 (approx. Php29K).

As for the water purifier, it’s one of the company’s entry in the ‘smart’ home system. It reportedly uses reverse osmosis and has a cotton filter, RO membrane, and two activated coconut carbon filters that aim to “reduce the TDS (total dissolved solids) to less than 100 in drinking water.”

The thing that makes it smart is its capability to be patched into an existing smart home system and will send a notification whenever it needs a new filter or when the device is faulty. The smart water purifier is priced at CNY1,299 (approx. Php9.5K).

Samsung has a 78″ Curved UHD TV painted with Gold

UHD TVs are making a good entry in the market nowadays. They are becoming more affordable compared before and each manufacturer has its own unique addition to make you purchase one. If a Samsung Curved UHD TV is still not enough, why not paint the back with gold?

The South Korean electronics giant collaborated with South Korean artist Sung Yung Hong to come up with a 78-inch Curved UHD TV. Nope, the high-resolution panel on front is not the star here, but rather the back plate of the TV. It is painted with gold-lacquer that features iconic scenes and well-known characters in television.

The gold-painted UHD TV is going to be displayed at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Center, West Wing Hall, on November 20. The striking piece of art will then be auctioned through Christie’s, an art auction house, for the benefit of Orbis, a global NGO for eye-health.
