Foxconn rumored to be testing 55-inch Apple TVs

Apple’s manufacturing partner, Foxconn, was reported to have already started its initial testing of Apple TVs with display sizes ranging from 46 to 55 inches.

A source told FocusTaiwan that Hon Hai Precision Industry Co., aka Foxconn, has already started the testing phase of Apple’s HDTV sets sporting displays of up to 55-inch. The source also hinted that “Apple TV-related products” will make an appearance at the Consumer Electronics Show in January with a possible release at the end of 2013.

The question now is what company would be supplying Foxconn the LCD panels needed for the Apple TVs? Sharp is the most logical choice since Foxconn has invested a lot in the Japanese company. But according to the source, the possibility is not that high.

In a nutshell, everything about the rumored Apple television remains vague. But you can be sure that we’ll update you as soon as more things come to light.

What do you guys think? Is it time for Apple to enter the commercial TV market? Can Apple change the way we watch TV? Share your thoughts below.

Sharp releases its first 4K 32-inch LED panel

If you’re line of work requires you to have a top of the line monitor, then Sharp’s 32-inch IGZO-inspired 4K LED panel called PN-K321 may just be the right tool for you. A fair caution though, this bad boy ain’t cheap, so you better be prepared for its eye-watering price.

For the benefit of those uninformed, 4K resolution (3,840 x 2,160) is 4-times better than the Full-HD (1920 x 1080). Slap that resolution to a 32-inch monitor and you got yourself a pixel density of 443ppi.

While some may argue about the benefits of having that high pixel density on a small display, the Sharp PN-K321 should definitely give its users an outstanding viewing experience. But its insane resolution isn’t the only thing that’s special about this monitor.

PN-K321

Sharp claims that the PN-K321 is the slimmest display panel in the business at only 35mm thanks to the company’s proprietary IGZO technology. And not only does this technology allow Sharp to make the monitor’s frame thinner, it also consumes less power.

The Sharp PN-K321 is set to hit the Japanese market early next year with a hefty $5,500 price tag. We guess it’s safe to say that this display panel is not for everybody, but if you need a more than capable monitor and money is not an issue, this is definitely something worth considering.

LG launches 84″ Ultra-HD 3D Smart TV

LG Home Entertainment has recently launched in Anson’s Makati its 84″ Ultra-HD 3D Smart TV which is capable of displaying content at four times the level of detail of a full 1080p HD resolution.

The UHD 3D TV has an IPS display with a screen resolution of 3840 x 2160 or 8 million pixels – that, according to LG, guarantees lifelike, dramatic, and pin sharp images. Now, watching non-UHD content on a TV this big could be an issue so LG uses a technology called the “LG Resolution Upscaler Plus” that allows SD and HD content to be displayed with higher detail. In 3D mode (3D glasses required), the TV uses a 3D Depth Control so users can adjust the distance between near and far objects. IPS also works on 3D so you still get a wide viewing experience. Don’t have 3D content? Not a problem. The UHD TV has a 2D to 3D conversion engine so you can view 2D content in 3D.

For audio, it uses a 3D Sound Zooming feature that analyzes the on-screen objects to generate sound according to location and movement. Partner that with the 2.2 Speaker System consisting of two 10W speakers and two 15W woofers so expect amazing sound coming from this TV. If you’re a gamer you’ll surely appreciate the feature called Dual Play that lets two players to simultaneously see different images on the same screen. From here you can say goodbye to split-screen gaming.

The LG 84-inch Ultra-HD 3D Smart TV has a price tag of Php849,990 and is now available in select appliance stores nationwide.
