The Redmond giant just got the world’s most complex organizational chart: Microsoft has announced its acquisition of professional networking site Linkedin with an all-cash buyout of $196 per share, or a staggering USD26.2 billion, or roughly Php1.21 Trillion when converted to our local currency.

The said move was initiated by Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella, according to an email sent to Linkedin employees by their CEO Jeff Weiner. The latter will still be in-charge of the world’s largest professional site, while reporting directly to Nadella. Weiner also identified future plans for the integration of Linkedin’s services into the Microsoft ecosystem:

  • Lynda.com integration into Microsoft office and other productivity suites
  • Innovating alongside Microsoft on solutions within the enterprise that are ripest for disruption, e.g., the corporate directory, company news dissemination, collaboration, productivity tools, etc
  • connecting non-overlapping graphs of various kinds of data pertaining to business professionals, which could be used to further enhance both companies’ services and platforms (eg: Linkedin’s graph woven onto Microsoft apps, and vice versa)

This new Microsoft acquisition is expected to complete before the year ends.

Pinoy Lucas Films & Disney artist confirms Rey Skywalker!

An art exhibit in Solaire potentially reveals that the female protagonist in the new Star Wars trilogy is indeed actually a Skywalker.

Rey

My sisters were browsing through the exhibit when they contacted me about this specific theory being confirmed. Beneath the painting done by Rodel Gonzalez, the only Filipino licensed by Disney & Lucas Films, lies the title “Rey Skywalker”, and is for sale in the exhibit for Php120,000. Seeing the credibility of the artist and following all the speculation on Rey’s lineage, it is hard to deny that she may actually be a Skywalker.

Rey Skywalker Rey Skywalker Rey Skywalker

Now this would allow for a lot of implications. Luke is most likely her father who left her before the movies, and the person off to kill all of the Jedi could actually be her half-brother. If you wish to see it for yourself, or buy the rather amazing painting, it is still on until June 30.

SmartMatic changed server script to update Señeres name

The recent controversy on the allegations of Sen. Bongbong Marcos regarding the tampering of the Transparency Server of the COMELEC started out from an attempt to correct the entry for candidate Roy Señeres whose name was mispelled.

According to a source who was volunteering for the PPCRV as an inhouse IT consultant, there was a request (update: Rappler made the request) to change the name of Señeres since the default entry was spelled “Se?eres” (an error in the server’s strong encoding). People will notice this since the early reports of the votes published on ABS-CBN and GMA 7 carried the misspelling.

All the representatives of the major political parties were notified and agreed that an update will be made to make the correction. All the reps agreed and monitored the update.

This could have caused the hash code to change from the original string that COMELEC communicated. This would have drawn attention as per protocol but since everyone was aware of the changes, it should not have any problems.

It looks like Sen. Marcos didn’t have any representative during the whole process and thus raised the concern and used this as the reason for his allegations on the tampering.
