Globe transitions to digital bill delivery starting Sept. 1

Globe has announced via SMS that it will be transitioning to digital bill delivery starting September 1, 2016.

Globe says that the transition to digital bill delivery allows the subscriber to receive their bills “in a faster, more convenient and secure way.” Digital billing is not new though, as the company has been offering digital bills but only as an option.

With the new implementation, the monthly billing, by default, will be sent exclusively via email and SMS. Those who prefer to receive their paper bills via courier are required to register via SMS and will be charged a monthly fee of Php50.

Court of Appeals junks SMS refund order to customers

In 2014, Smart, Sun and PLDT approached the Court of Appeals to stop the Php7 billion refund ordered by the NTC and reduce the rate of text messages to Php0.80.

In June 27, the CA has announced its ruling and stated that the NTC did not have legal basis and did not follow due process. It further adds that a reduced inter-connection charges between telcos do not automatically mean cost of SMS should also go down.

The Court of Appeals also struck down the order to issue a refund to customers.

NTC made the order to reduce SMS charges and issue a refund back in November 20, 2012 and May 7, 2014. The NTC is expected to file a motion for reconsideration.

MVP signs MOA to transition from Patrol 117 to 911

Manuel V. Pangilinan (MVP), Chariman of PLDT-Smart, has recently signed a memorandum of agreement between the Philippine government and private sector partners to transition to 911 emergency service.

The country currently uses 117, aka Patrol 117, as the national emergency telephone number, but under the Duterte administration, it will soon be replaced by 911 which will be linked to the Nationwide Emergency Response Center.

The 911 hotline was implemented by Duterte in Davao during his time as the city’s Mayor. The new President now wants the same system for the whole country.

PLDT and Smart have signed an agreement with the DOTr to strengthen wireless connectivity with the use of Smart Wi-Fi in major airports, seaports, bus terminals, and in the LRT and MRT. Under the agreement, the private sector will provide free internet access in various transport hubs. As for the mass transport systems in the metro, users can enjoy these services even when inside the train and in the area of the station.

Only time will tell when this is going to be publicly available and we do hope that these free service is of good quality.
