Smart doubles Smart Bro Plug-It speeds to 12Mbps

Smart Communications recently announced that it is doubling the maximum download speeds of its Smart Bro Starter and Power Plug-Its.

The new maximum download speeds of the Starter and Power Plug-Its is now at 7.2Mbps and 12Mbps, respectively, under 3G and HSPA+ connections. “We’ve increased the top connection speeds of our Plug Its so that Smart Bro subs can explore more of the Internet on the country’s first and only 100% super-charged network,” said Smart Broadband Internet and Data Services Head Lloyd Manaloto.

The Smart Bro Starter Plug-It has a price tag of Php995 while the Smart Bro Power Plug-It has a price tag of Php1,245. Both Plug-Its are available in prepaid and postpaid. Take a look at the Smart Bro data packages below:

Smart starts pre-order of Samsung Galaxy S4

Smart Comm. has started accepting pre-orders of the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S4. The pre-order page went live earlier today allowing interested consumers to get reservations for a postpaid plan.

Smart did not indicate when will the units be released or for which postpaid plan it will be free. Our guess is somewhere between Unlidata Plan 2000 and Plan 3000.

Globe completes Phase 1 of Network Modernization

Globe Telecom Inc. has recently announced that it has already completed the first phase of its $700 million network modernization plan.

“The first phase of the modernization is practically done. We have immediately moved to the next phase of optimizing our new equipment for maximum performance. This concludes the modernization of our access network,” said Emmanuel Estrada, head network strategy of Globe Network Technology Group.

The first phase includes the replacement of cellsites and existing hardware like power sources or generators, base stations and switches, with new technology equipment to boost mobile and data services. According to Estrada, 54% of Globe’s cell sites are already running on 4G HSPA+.

For the next phase, Globe will focusing on improving its customer solutions which they expect to be finished by the end of the year. “To radically improve our network performance and our customers’ experience, we need to replace more than cell sites.”

Smart Communications has broadcasted a new TV ad showcasing the revamped unlimited SMS promo called All Text 30 Plus. For the benefit of those who haven’t seen it yet, here’s the low down of the Smart’s new promo.

The Smart All Text 30 Plus is a significant update to the previous All Text 30 promo wherein subscribers are only given 300 intra-network SMS and 10 SMS to other networks and is valid for two days. On the new promo, however, users are given unlimited SMS to all networks and 30 minutes worth of voice calls for the same length of time (2 days).

To subscribe to this promo, you need to key in AT30 and send it to 2827. The promo runs from today until October 31 of this year.

Smart extends unlimited LTE, bares regular pricing

In a press release sent posted yesterday, Smart announced that they are extending their introductory promo for unlimited LTE from April 30 to June 30. In the same announcement, they also revealed the regular prices for mobile LTE.

Originally offered with unlimited LTE access on April 30, Smart announced that this has been extended to June 30. This applies when you subscribe to the regular unlimited plan.

At the same time, All-in Plan users may avail of by sending the appropriate keyword to 7577 to enjoy unlimited LTE service until June 30, 2013. Prices for these plans are as follows:

Always On 50, 25MB, Php50

Always On 100, 75MB, Php100

Always On 300, 300MB, Php300

Always On 500, 1GB, Php500

Always On 995, 2GB, Php995

If you don’t want the bucket plans and prefer time-based charging, the regular Php10 per 30 minute rate will apply.

Aside from the older LTE devices like the Xperia V and iPhone 5, newer phones are now being offered on LTE plans like the ZTE T82 and the Huawei Ascend D1.
