Spotify has recently celebrated its first year in the local scene. In line with this, the popular music streaming service crunched some data to get an insight on how they fared on their maiden year in the Philippines, and from the numbers that they’ve gathered, it has been one hell of a year.
According to their data, an estimated 2.5 billion songs were streamed last year, and a total of 61.8 million playlists were created during the same time. Furthermore, they found out that 20-percent or one of every five Filipinos who have internet access uses the service.
During an interview, Sunita Kaur, managing director of Spotify in Asia, said that although they have seen record-breaking success locally, they are not at all surprised since the Philippines is known for being music-loving country.
Another thing that Kaur attributed to Spotify’s success in the country is the company’s decision to team up with Globe Telecoms.
For their part, the Ayala-owned telco gave free access to Spotify Premium to all GoSURF subscribers which started last April 13 last year.
Rina Azcuna-Siongco, Head of Value Added Services at Globe, said that the cheap rates helped a lot in boosting the popularity of Spotify to their patrons.
The combination of Spotify’s broad music library and Globe’s cheap rates lead the Philippines to be the second fastest market for Spotify in the world next to Canada, and Spotify’s largest market in Southeast Asia.
