Sony unveils Xperia Z3 Compact & Z3 Tablet Compact

Lazada Philippines

Sony’s Xperia Z3 isn’t alone as expected – it’s part of a family of Z3s, namely the Xperia Z3 compact, a smaller version with few compromises in specs, and the Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact, their newest tablet but this time, instead of sizing up at 10-inches, it’s with a smaller 8-inch display.

xperia z3 compact

Both bearing similar designs, waterproofing, software features and the like, both devices carry a few differences from the Xperia Z3. Starting off with the Z3 Compact, the major differences that can be found here aside from the size is the resolution of 720p and the lower capacity 2GB RAM. The power however remains the same as it still hosts Sony’s 20 megapixel camera capable of 4K and the same 2.5GHz Snapdragon 801 CPU.

The Sony Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact (quite a mouthful if we may say) on the other hand is much closer to the Xperia Z3, being the company’s flagship tablet. The only biggest change here is the camera, which we welcome as cameras on tablets aren’t really the most important thing.

Local pricing and availability are yet to be announced so stay tuned!

For spec heads however, the Xperia Z3 might be lacking as it packs a 1080p display and a lot of unchanged specs coming from its predecessor.

Sony intros KW1 selfie phone shaped like a perfume bottle

Talk about weird innovations, Sony has just pulled the wraps off of its CyberShot DSC-KW1 smartphone that specializes in selfies while taking on the shape of a perfume bottle. It carries a rotating camera and is packed with an array of beautification features.

Sony CyberShot DSC-KW1 specs:
3.3-inch OLED display
19.2MP 180 degrees rotating camera
21mm F2.0 lens with LED flash
Wi-Fi
NFC
Colors: White, pink, purple, and green

So far that’s all that Sony revealed in terms of specs. Its features, however, somehow gets a rundown. In addition to its twisting camera that pretty much looks like a bottle cap, the KW1 has a self-timer with countdown function and a camera stand for hands-free shooting. As mentioned earlier, the handset is filled with effects to enhance certain elements of the users’ face — they can enlarge their eyes, change the tone and smoothen their skin, or remove that oily look.

To make it more unconventional, Sony embedded Swarovski crystals around its sensor to add more bling (and class?) to this smartphone.

The CyberShot DSC-KW1 is currently exclusive to China with no news of its availability in other countries. It costs ¥5,199 (approx. Php37,000) as of its announcement which is pretty steep for budget-conscious people. We guess it costs to achieve that “perfect selfie” shot, but if your budget doesn’t allow it you can always download Camera 360 from your app store or include #nofilter on your next upload.
