Sony SRS-BTV5 Wireless NFC Speakers

These wireless speakers were sent to me and my co-hosts in @GeekyNights by Sony Philippines about a month ago and since I bought the Xperia Tablet Z, I’ve been using it with this one when watching movies or playing music.

What we really like about it, aside form being a portable speaker, is that it also acts as a speakerphone to your smartphone. While playing music and someone calls, you can receive the call directly from the NFC speakers. There’s a built-in microphone at the mid-section which can pick-up voice at a comfortable distance.

There are physical controls for the volume and activating the microphone as well as hidden ports for the micro USB and the 3.5mm input jack.

The speaker has a power of about 1.2watts (rms) so it should be a bit louder than those single X-Mini speaker you’ve seen around. Sony promises up to 5 hours of battery life on a single full charge. It’s almost the same with our actual use.

It comes with Bluetooth but pairing is done quickly via NFC (by tapping the back of an NFC-enabled smartphone or tablet to the speaker’s head). The speaker weighs 130 grams so it’s just about the same weight as a smartphone.

The box comes with a carrying pouch, micro-USB cable charger and the speakers. It’s available in blue, pink, black and white colors. The Sony BTV5 has a suggested retail price of Php4,999 (12% VAT included).
