Sony outs A7 & A7R, Full-Frame mirrorless cameras

After spending a fair amount of time in the rumor mill, the Sony A7 and A7R has finally made its debut and is immediately looking to impress photography aficionados with its Full-Frame sensor packed inside a compact form factor.

In terms of physical attributes, Sony’s two new full-frame cameras are almost identical to each other. Both MILCs sports Magnesium Alloy body peppered with knobs, buttons and switches for customizing settings on the fly. The A7 and A7R are also equipped with the same 3-inch 1.23M-dot LCD screen that can be tilted upwards (84-degree) and downwards (45-degree).

The only major difference between the two lies in the sensor used for each of them. Although both cameras boast a 35mm sensor, the A7R has a more pixel-packed sensor (36MP) compared to the A7 (24MP). Moreover, the former’s sensor also doesn’t have an optical low-pass filter for sharper shots.

However, this slight difference in the imaging sensor resulted to a significant increase in the A7R’s price, USD700 more to be exact. So unless you absolutely must have the AA filter-less sensor and the additional 12MP, I think that you’re better off getting the A7 instead which is slated to be retailed USD1,699 (body only).
