It’s About Time: A Smartwatch Compilation

Lazada Philippines

A lot of smartwatches have already been outed and announced, running Android Wear or their own operating system, having round displays or conventional square ones and more. So to paint a clear picture of what the smartwatch industry looks like at the moment, we’ve compiled the smartwatches from top phone manufacturers that are competing for the space right now.

Note: For the sake of this compilation, we took out the earliest devices such as the Galaxy Gear and the initial Sony Smartwatches. We also cannot include all the smartwatches released, so we only took the most relevant ones in the context where you may see the time and install new things into your wearable. Listed in no particular order.

Now there’s a lot more if you think about watches with varying functionality; there’s Cookoo, Qualcomm, Meta and a lot more playing around. If rumors are true, Apple might add to this list, but there’s also a chance that we won’t as we haven’t even seen a single leak of the “iWatch”. Nokia and Microsoft are strangely too quiet about the smartwatch industry as well, so we still don’t know how they’ll play their cards.

So did you place your bet yet? Or are the smartwatches not yet worth it? Feel free to leave your thoughts in the comments section down below.

LG G Watch 2 might come next month

The successor to the two-month old Android Wear device, the LG G Watch 2, is already cooking and it is said to be a great competitor to the alleged Apple smartwatch.

According to Korea Times, the next-generation LG G Watch is a “serious game changer” wearable. LG is working to have a September announcement for the new smartwatch wherein the IFA 2014 will commence in Berlin. The report says the IFA fair might just be the venue for the showcase, not for consumers, but for its clients.

Details about the LG G Watch 2 is still limited. Rumors claim that it will feature an OLED display versus the IPS LCD of the current generation plus a Qualcomm processor.

ASUS to offer Android Wear smartwatch under Php6.5K?

Looks like ASUS is planning to join in on the fun of wearable devices. It’s recently been reported to be working on its own smartwatch that runs on Android Wear – going up against the LG G Watch, Motorola Moto 360, and Samsung Gear Live.

Mock-up of ASUS smartwatch

The still-unnamed ASUS smartwatch is rumored to have an AMOLED display, but it was all that’s been revealed for now. One good news, though, is that it should come at a price point lower than the $229 (approx. Php10K) G Watch, $249 (Php11K) Moto 360, and even the more affordable $200 (Php8K) Gear Live. With an alleged price range between $90 to $149 (Php4K – 6.5K), we can expect the ASUS smartwatch to steal a portion in the market of interested buyers once it launches.

We should be seeing it sometime in September if allegations prove true. If you can no longer wait until then, you might want to take a look at the G Watch and Gear Live as they are already up for purchase and pre-orders.
