Madame Tussauds Singapore Launches Wax Figure of Iconic Singapore Girl

Madame Tussauds Singapore and Singapore Airlines today announce the launch of a wax figure of the iconic Singapore Girl, one of Singapore’s best known icons.

The figure is modelled after Ms Nur Surya Binte Mohamed Ambiah, a flight stewardess with Singapore Airlines (SIA) who joined in 2007 but left to start a family in 2011 and rejoined SIA in 2012 under the Returning Crew Scheme.

“We are truly delighted to have created a wax figure of the Singapore Girl; she is a global icon and the epitome of grace and hospitality. Representing a leading Asian brand, the iconic Singapore Girl is well-known all over the world and therefore we wanted to feature her in our attraction which aims to showcase the best of Singapore!” said Ms Sharon Wong, Marketing Manager, Madame Tussauds Singapore.

“The Singapore Girl, with her distinctive sarong kebaya, is a global icon and one of the most instantly recognisable figures worldwide. She is perennial and appeals to both young and old. Our customers have a strong emotional connection with our brand as a result of her iconic image. Her contribution to SIA’s brand is invaluable and we are excited for her to be featured in Madame Tussauds Singapore,” said Mr Marvin Tan, Singapore Airlines Senior Vice President Cabin Crew.

This is the second figure of a Singapore Girl to be produced by Madame Tussauds. The first was modelled after Ms Lim Suet Kwee and was launched in 1993. Ms Lim, who is now Assistant Manager for Crew Performance, played a crucial role in the selection process for the new Singapore Girl wax figure.

Several factors were considered during the selection process, the most important of which was the fact that she should embody the characteristics of the Singapore Girl, such as Asian grace, hospitality and commitment to service. Other factors include her poise and confidence in presenting herself.

In September 2014, the Madame Tussauds team met Surya for an eight hour sitting which involved collecting measurements, photos, costume donations, a hand cast, hair samples, a signature and checks for eye colour matches. About 500 precise body and facial measurements were taken. Ms Lim was also present at the sitting to provide Surya with guidance, based on her past experience. The figure was created in London and took approximately three months to complete. Surya’s wax figure is wearing an SIA sarong kebaya cabin crew uniform, donated by SIA.

Madame Tussauds is one of the world’s most popular visitor attractions, drawing millions of visitors across the world every year. The attraction features some of Singapore’s most popular celebrities, as well as International and Asian A-list celebrities from around the world. Madame Tussauds Singapore is located at Imbiah Lookout on Sentosa and sits alongside Images of Singapore LIVE which is now open to the public. Images of Singapore LIVE introduces an entirely new element with live actors, telling stories about Singapore’s history. The two attractions are linked by the ‘Spirit of Singapore’ boat ride.

Singapore Airlines And TCS Introduce Mobile Solution For Cabin Crew

Singapore Airlines (SIA) and Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) today announced the launch of TCS CrewCollab Solution, a tablet-based mobile application for cabin crew to deliver more personalised customer service and to automate and streamline in-flight processes for cabin crew. The application has been developed through a collaboration project by SIA and TCS, which leverages on SIA’s service excellence and TCS’ strength in digital technology development.

SIA is the launch customer for TCS CrewCollab Solution and its cabin crew are now using it on board. Crew can view information which traditionally has been in paper format, such as customer service lists, flight information and crew lists, digitally via tablets during flights.

In addition to the accessing and updating of flight, crew and service information digitally, SIA’s cabin crew will also be able to create digital voyage reports for each flight and enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of follow-up items across the many functional areas of the Airline. Additionally, crew will be able to use the application to access digital versions of key documents such as safety manuals, service procedures manuals, catering information, crew memos or alerts and crew-to-crew handover notes.

“We are very pleased to collaborate with our long-standing partner Tata Consultancy Services to develop TCS CrewCollab Solution. The application is vital to how we will continue to improve our operations and enhance our customer servicing on board. We look forward to developing the application further in partnership with TCS, to enable our crew to offer a more personalised customer experience and meet our customers’ evolving travel needs,” said Singapore Airlines’ Senior Vice President Cabin Crew, Mr Marvin Tan.

“Digital forces like mobile, social and big data analytics are creating tremendous possibilities for businesses globally. TCS CrewCollab Solution harnesses these digital forces in the hands of airline crew to deliver an enriched customer experience,” said S Sukanya, VP and Global Head, Travel Transportation and Hospitality Unit, TCS. “Singapore Airlines is one of our most valuable and long- standing clients in the region and this partnership brings an industry-validated, ready-to-deploy solution to the airline industry,” she added.

TCS Crew CollabSolution is available from TCS to airlines worldwide.

SIA’s New Premium Economy Class Now Open For Booking

Singapore Airlines’ newest class of travel, Premium Economy Class, opens for sale today.

From 9 August 2015, customers travelling on select flights from Singapore to Sydney will be the first to experience the new cabin class, which will subsequently be made available to other destinations served by the Airline’s Airbus A380s and Boeing 777-300ERs, in addition to the future fleet of Airbus A350s.

Conceptualisation for the new Premium Economy Class seats started in November 2013, with seat manufacturers ZIM Flugsitz GmbH (for the A380 and 777-300ER) and Zodiac Seats US (for the A350), and award-winning design firm JPA Design. The total investment for the new cabin class, which will initially be introduced on 19 A380s, 19 777-300ERs and the first 20 A350s, is estimated at USD80 million.

Premium Economy Class will be progressively introduced to other sectors, including Beijing, Delhi, Hong Kong, Frankfurt, London, Mumbai, New York, Shanghai, Tokyo and Zurich in the latter part of 2015 and early 2016. Customers may visit www.singaporeair.com for the most updated flight schedules and fare details for the new cabin class.

“We have been heartened by the highly positive public reaction to our new Premium Economy Class since our plans were announced last year,” said Singapore Airlines’ CEO, Mr Goh Choon Phong.

“Many of our customers’ suggestions have been incorporated into the new product, and we are confident it will be well received by travellers who are looking for more features – in the seat design, in-flight offerings and exclusive privileges – all underpinned by the exceptional service that SIA is well known for, both on the ground and in the air.”

Premium Economy Class will welcome customers with a bespoke contemporary and stylish design, offering more space, comfort and convenience.

Each seat has a width ranging between 18.5 and 19.5 inches and offers an eight-inch recline for more ease and comfort. Complementing this is a sleek 13.3-inch full HD monitor, the largest in its class. Active noise-cancelling headphones will be provided to enhance the in-flight audio experience.

Thoughtful touches include full leather finishing and a calf-rest and foot-bar for every seat. Seats also feature individual in-seat power supply, two USB ports, personal in-seat reading light, cocktail table, as well as additional stowage space for personal items such as a water bottle, mobile phone and laptop. To enhance the individuality of the new class, seat amenities such as the headrest cover, cushion and blanket come in specially selected and matching colours.

Customers in Premium Economy Class can choose from a more extensive range of food and beverage offerings. Besides being able to select from a standard menu with three meal choices, customers may, from April 2015, also select from the Premium Economy Book the Cook service featuring popular dishes. Champagne will be offered, in addition to a selection of curated wines, throughout the flight.

To ensure a seamless experience that begins on the ground, priority check-in and baggage handling will be offered to customers travelling in Premium Economy Class. Customers will also enjoy a baggage allowance of 35kg. KrisFlyer members will receive 10% more miles when they fly in Premium Economy Class.
