Galaxy S4 allegedly leaks: No AMOLED, Exynos?

Truth needs consistency and coherence, and that is what we have here with the Samsung Galaxy S IV specs that was leaked once more. It has been going on from a number of reports, all pointing to it being powered by a Snapdragon 600 processor instead of Exynos. Recent news further suggests that there won’t be any AMOLED as well.

According to SamMobile, the 4th Galaxy S won’t feature their Exynos CPU all because of overheating issues. This wasn’t the first time these rumors hit the web. Apparently, way back it was suggested that the Galaxy S4 will run on a Snapdragon processor. Of course, it will be fast. The HTC One goes around the 12,000 mark on Quadrant benchmarks, while the S4 benchmarks that also leaked led us to around 24,000 on Antutu. We have no idea where that equates to however.

On the other side of the report, there won’t be any AMOLED show for the S4. Instead, it will be using a SoLux display of unknown origin. It will be 4.99-inches in size and 1080p in resolution. Judging by the leaked image above, the boot screen shows a dark shade of gray instead of a deep black – which could mean this is of the LCD kind.

A lot of details on the design leaked as well, including it having a plastic back with aluminum sides, the signature home button, squared off edges and dimensions of 140.1 x 71.8 x 7.7mm (that is very close to the Xperia Z’s dimensions). For you to visualize it and for the other specs that leaked, we have prepared it for you down below. Nothing new to visualize really, especially in design.

Samsung Galaxy S IV specs (so far):
4.99-inch Full-HD SoLux LCD Display, 1080 x 1920
1.9GHz Snapdragon 600 CPU
2GB RAM
16, 32, 64 GB internal storage
13 megapixel camera
140.1 x 71.8 x 7.7mm
138g
Removable battery
Android 4.2 Jellybean
Wireless charging

It’s quite difficult to analyze something like this. Does this mean the Galaxy Note 3 will be the one packing the Exynos 5 Octa? Or the 1080p Super AMOLED? Weirdly, the report also states that it will go for black & white color schemes instead of the recent blue & white one. Until the Galaxy S4′s release, take everything as a grain of salt. At least we have an idea of what the competition will be up against.

Why the Samsung Galaxy S IV won’t be unveiled till May

The Samsung Galaxy S 3 is one of the best-selling phones that ever existed, and we believe that the follow-up to that success won’t be seen this early.

Rumors of the Galaxy S IV are already making rounds in the internet. It is claimed to be packing a quad-core Exynos 5 processor, a 13 megapixel camera and a 1080p Super AMOLED display. In fact, there are already leaked photos of the rumored device.

But before we believe these leaks and rumors, let’s take a look at what happened last year, months before the SGS 3 was announced. Following the success of the Galaxy S II, there was an excessive amount of hype for its successor. Details about the Galaxy S 3 were already being talked about in the early months of 2012, and many believed that it would pack a non-Pentile flexible display and a metallic casing. The details and rumored specs for the SGS 3 got more realistic as May went closer.

Other Leaks

However, there was one thing that the media was never right in reporting; it was the design. Samsung placed the internals of the S3 in different bodies and builds – which led to us not being able to see the final design of the product. In fact, there was no image leak of the SGS 3 that truly represented the real thing (except for the manual sketch that leaked hours before the announcement).

Samsung skipped CES and MWC last year for the Galaxy S release and opted for a separate event. After building massive amounts of hype, at May 3, 2012, the phone was announced (5/3 almost looks like S3, which proves that Samsung put a lot of strategy over their release).

S4 leaks

Now, we’re seeing the same things again as alleged leaks of the SGS 4 are popping out. Samsung might not unveil the next Galaxy S at CES, MWC or any technology show; instead, they might go for an exclusive event. Somehow, we believe that Samsung has mastered some marketing strategies that are similar to how Apple markets their products.

Samsung Lebanon

After all, Samsung Lebanon has already stated that the Samsung Galaxy S 4 won’t be available till May. Samsung might cannibalize their sales by releasing it months away from its predecessor.
