Samsung to stop selling ATIV and Chromebook in EU

According to a report by the folks over at PC Advisor UK, Samsung will be halting the sales of both the company’s Windows-based (Ativ) and Chrome-based (Chromebook) line of computers in European markets.

In a statement, a Samsung spokesperson told PC Advisor UK that the decision was made after careful consideration of the “current market needs and demands”. The spokesperson also added that the decision to pull out from the portable computer segment is “specific to the region – and is not necessarily reflective of conditions in other markets.”

PC sales have been on a decline in recent times due to the rapid adoption of mobile devices such as smartphones and tablets, so it’s no wonder why Samsung EU decided to abandon the slowly sinking ship while they still have time to do so.

If you can remember Sony also did the same thing back in February, but instead of half-guessing, the firm went as far as selling its entire VAIO portfolio to JIP.

Is there really no future for the Notebook PCs (and Chromebooks) in the smartphone era? Tell us what you think on the comments field below.
