It was just last week when the Sailfish-powered Jolla smartphone was launched, now Jolla CEO Tomi Pienimäki has revealed that Android users will soon be able to install Sailfish OS on their devices.
During an interview with Talouselämä Magazine, Jolla CEO Tomi Pienimäki has confirmed that Android users will soon be able install the Sailfish OS on their current devices. “That is the plan. We are on device business and OS business. It is fairly easy to install the OS on Android devices”, said Pienimäki.
The Finnish company is planning to distribute the OS in countries like China where people are actively installing new operating systems on their devices. “There are websites that already distribute [OS] software and the Chinese customers are doing it so we don’t have to teach them. We just have to get Sailfish to those websites – and to make sure that Sailfish will run on different kind of Android devices.”
Pienimäki also added that selling the OS isn’t the company’s main method of attracting revenue. “It has to be something else on top of that. It can be applications, services or advertising.”
The CEO didn’t mention when they’re planning to release the Sailfish OS and the method on how to install it on an Android device. However, it’s good to know that we’ll soon be able to tinker around with a new ROM especially if you’re getting bored of Android.
