Canon EOS 7D Mark II in the works?

Earlier, we reported that Canon is rumored to release three new DSLR cameras this year , and we think that one of those will be the 7D’s successor. Now, CanonRumors may have some insider info on what the internals of Canon EOS 7D Mark II will be.

canon 7d

CanonRumors reports that they’ve received a tip from an anonymous informant about the specs of the upcoming successor of the Canon EOS 7D which is temporarily dubbed as 7D Mark II. Here are some of the info they’ve got:

• 24.1mp APS-C Sensor
• Dual DIGIC 5
• 10 frames-per-second
• Dual Memory Card Slots (CF + SD perhaps)
• 61 Autofocus Points
• 3.2? LCD (probably 1,024K dot, our opinion)
• Build quality like 5D Mark III
• GPS & Wifi
• ISO Performance to get close to the 5D Mark III

In addition to the info written above, the upcoming 7D Mark II is said to be released with a USD2,199 price tag, which is USD500 pricier than the 7D when it was first launched back in 2009. The rumored camera is also believed to possess a handful of video features to cater to film makers.

Canon remains mum about the topic, so do take this with the usual grain of salt. But if this rumor turns out to be true, then it’ll be a worthy successor to the famous upper mid-range dSLR camera.

Leaked: Globe to offer Internet TV, cheaper DSL prices

In a leaked document we received today from an anonymous source, it looks like Globe is going to introduce their very own Internet TV bundled with a lower DSL price for residential subscribers.

A copy of what could be confidential documents from Globe, it is finalizing deals with media companies to bundle IPTV subscriptions with up 70 channels. This supports the story that a potential Globe and ABS-CBN alliance is being worked out and was first reported as early as November 2012.

globe-internet-tvclick on image for larger view

Both regular DSL and Fiber subscriptions will have reduced monthly subscription fees (MSF). “Tattoo Torque (the brand Fiber service) will be killed and be integrated to Tattoo@Home for unification“, adds our source.

The price drops for monthly subscriptions are very dramatic with Plan 1099 for 10Mbps with free landline, Plan 1299 for 20Mbps, Plan 1499 for 30Mbps, Plan 2099 for 40Mbps, Plan 3099 for 70Mbps and Plan 4099 for 100Mbps.

For plans 2099 and up, it comes with free landline and Internet TV subscription (70 channels). Plan 1299 and up comes with free landline as well.

What’s more surprising is that they will introduce a Plan 299 with up to 1Mbps, the cheapest DSL plan ever.

Of course, we assume this is only applicable to areas where Globe’s fiber lines are available. If they can offer unlimited LTE of up to 42Mbps on their iPhone 5 plans for Php999 SuperSurf, these new plans are likely to be true.

Word of caution — these are just leaks and rumors so don’t bet on it until we get a final confirmation.

Update: Just got a call from Globe rep stating that these plans are not true. Oh well. It would have been really good for Globe if it were!

In any case, it’s technically not true because it’s in the proposal stage and have not been approved. Until this proposal is approved, we cannot confirm the veracity of this leak.

Hewlett-Packard’s looking to enter the Android scene

HP may have failed in their first attempt at the tablet industry, but it seems that we haven’t seen the last of them as suggested by the speculation about their plans of releasing a new breed of slates.

But instead of using Web OS for their upcoming tablets, HP is said to be looking in to incorporating Google’s mobile platform on their next venture. According to ReadWrite, the tech site that started it all, two anonymous informants have tipped them about HP’s plans of releasing a slew of Android tablets.

In addition to this, one of the tipsters said that HP’s upcoming tablet may be “one of the first tablets to ship with the Tegra 4 processor”. The source also claims that the rumoured tablet has been in the works since November and may be unveiled in the second half of this year.

HP remains mum about this topic, but they are holding a series of closed-door meetings during the Mobile World Congress which may shed some more light on their upcoming Android slate, if ever there is one. Will the tides turn in favour of Hewlett-Packard this time? What do you guy think?

Samsung Galaxy S4’s benchmark test leaked

The web is filled with countless rumors of Samsung’s upcoming flagship handset, from how it’ll look like down to the processor that will be at its core. Today, a snapshot of GLBenchmark result gives us a glimpse of how the SGS4 fared against its predecessor and two other formidable handsets.

glbenchmark result

The handset at the top of the heap is supposedly the Korean version of Sammy’s next torch bearer which currently goes by the name of Samsung SHV-E300S. Surprisingly, the details of the S4 provided by GLBenchmark suggests that it features a more conservative configuration. At its beating heart is a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Krait MSM8960 with 2GB of RAM and Adreno 320 GPU.

Though it may not be the Exynos 5 Octa that the phone is rumoured to be equipped with, the MSM8960 is no push-over either as is evident on the results of the benchmark test. On off-screen test, the alleged SGS4 decimated its opponents (SGS3, GNex4 and HTC Butterfly) by reaching a staggering 41.3 frames-per-second. On the on screen, however, the Google Nexus 4 emerged victorious besting the rumoured handset by more than 4fps.

Nothing is certain up to this point, so we suggest do take this information lightly. Hopefully the upcoming tech convention in Barcelona will shed more light on the upcoming device.

Asus’ Intel Atom-powered slate to debut on MWC?

Talks of an ASUS tablet with Intel Atom processor at its beating heart has been in the rumor mill even before the last CES begun. But even though the rumored slate didn’t make it for the Vegas tech convention, all is not lost as suggested by the leaked catalog from an online retailer.

The page has already been taken down, but {Techkiddy } was able to secure a copy of the said catalog which reveals the price of the tablet (THB7,900 or Php10,782).

In addition to the 1.2GHz Intel Atom Z2420 processor, the ME371MG or more commonly known in the rumor mill as the ASUS FonePad (not to be confused with the ASUS PadFone) is said to boast 1GB of RAM, 3MP camera, 3G connectivity and will feature the same screen size and resolution as the famous Nexus 7. This Android Jelly bean slate is said to be released in 2 storage variants, 8GB and 16GB and will be available in two unusual colors (Gold and Silver).

Note though that nothing is final up to this point, so take this with your usual grain of salt. We won’t have to wait too long though to find out if there’s any truth to these allegations as were just weeks away from the Mobile World Congress.

Updated: We have another source close to Asus that confirms this “phablet” (this is how they referred to it) and it will have voice and SMS functionality. The expected price is around Php11,000 and will be the first Intel Atom powered smartphone from Asus. It will be available in the market by March. – Yuga
