Asus Zenfone Zoom to be priced at Php26,995

Asus Philippines is set to launch the Zenfone Zoom in the country next week but there’s one very critical information that’s still missing — the retail price. So we asked around the some retail store point to a possible suggested retail price of Php26,995 for the 128GB model.

The Zenfone Zoom will also be powered by a slightly newer and faster Intel Atom Z3590 quad-core chip with a maximum clock speed of 2.5GHz per core.

The Php26,995 is actually the same price that Asus CEO Jerry Shen told us (we quoted his stating a Php27k SRP) last year during our interview (see here).

Expect 1Gbps fiber-to-home from Globe for Php9,499 this November

Globe also plans to offer 1Gbps fiber to home connection this November 2015, according to leaked documents we obtained earlier. This is part of the Platinum Home Broadband Plan that Globe is offering to select villages and condominiums.

The historical chart above shows the initial speed offering for fiber when Globe started rolling it out in 2014. It also shows how the speeds are increasing and the monthly service fees are decreasing.

According to the same documents that we got, Platinum Home Broadband Plans will start at 50Mbps for Php2,499 (see story here).

There’s also a 200Mbps plan for Php4,499 and a 500Mbps line for Php7,499 if you think 1Gbps is too much for your needs.

Take note those that the 1Gbps fiber connections are currently offered in limited areas (see complete list here).

Leak: Globe to offer 50Mbps unlimited broadband for Php2,499

In a leaked document that we acquired just now, it looks like Globe Telecom is set to upgrade it Platinum Broadband Plans to higher bandwidth. The documents point to a 50Mbps unlimited connection for only Php2,499 while a 100Mbps line will be priced at Php3,499.

The Platinum Home Broadband is Globe’s fiber internet service that covers selected high-end subdivisions and condominiums (check all the areas covered with this plan here).

These are very fast yet affordable broadband that could rival neighboring countries. Although the serviceable areas are still limited due to limitations of technology and infrastructure, the list should expand in more areas and subdivisions as roll-out of fiber lines are being done.

Our source indicates the new Platinum Plans will become effective on October 24, 2015 (this is also the date stated in the documents we got).

Local Internet Service Providers have recently been the target of criticisms and even Senate investigation regarding the slow state of internet in the Philippines. This move could be Globe’s effort to address the concern and while the new upgraded speeds only covers those areas with fiber connection, we should see more and more subscribers being able to upgrade to these speeds soon.

P.S. Coincidentally, my condo is included in this list so we will try to subscribe to the 100Mbps plan and check the performance.
