Fresh from the recent rebrand to 9TV back in August, RPN 9 will once again undergo a major transformation as current majority stake holder, Antonio Cabangon-Chua, inks a deal with Turner Broadcasting System Inc. (TBS, Inc.) which will turn the 9News to CNN Philippines by 2015.
According to Media Newser Philippines, the 9TV will benefit from the fresh contents that will be provided by its new ally. Furthermore, it’s been said that CNN Philippines will bring “some of its current programming to non-cable Filipino viewers” when launched next year.
However, not everybody shares the same optimism as Cabangon-Chua has with the recent venture. One of the journalists that the website interviewed said that in order for this partnership to prosper, the station needs to hire seasoned journalists to be the face of the news network.
“Being pretty in TV helps but you need more than a pretty face to be taken seriously and have that credibility to be truly called a journalist,”
A media press event is scheduled later today to formally announce the partnership between the two companies.
