A good list to choose from for next batch of senators

Leila de Lima and Ping Lacson

Leila de Lima and Ping Lacson

Filipinos just love elections.

A total of 130 have filed certificates of candidacy for president in the May 2016 elections and 19 for vice president.
There are 172 who are vying for the 12 slots in the Senate.

The five reelectionist senators – Franklin Drilon, Ralph Recto, Teofisto Guingona III, Sergio Osmeña III, Vicente Sotto III- have an edge being familiar names and having an established nationwide machinery. Unless something terribly awful happens that would involve them in controversy before the elections, they are expected to be in the Magic 12.

There are four former senators who want to return to the Senate and they also enjoy an advantage in terms of name recall. They are Panfilo “Ping” Lacson, Richard Gordon, Francis Pangilinan, and Juan Miguel Zubiri.

Dick Gordon and Risa Hontiveros

Dick Gordon and Risa Hontiveros

But it’s not a comfortable advantage as experienced by Gordon in the 2013 elections (he placed number 13 in the election topped by Grace Poe) and Zubiri, who placed 14th.

With the nine slots almost taken up by re-electionist and former senators, it would be an uphill battle for the new aspirants for the Senate except probably for boxing idol Manny Pacquiao.

But even Pacquiao can’t be sure. Many applaud him as a boxer but he has nothing to be proud of as a legislator representing Saranggani province. He was an absentee congressman. He had also lost an election in 2007 although he bounced back in the succeeding elections and has established himself and members of his family, including his wife, Jinky, as a political force in the South Cotabato and Saranggani politics.

Of the new senatorial candidates, it’s former Justice Leila de Lima who fared well in last survey (September 2015) of Pulse Asia for the senatorial race.

Susan Ople and Ramon Montaño

Susan Ople and Ramon Montaño

But while De Lima gained admiration from many for not bowing to the Iglesia ni Cristo’s pressure in the investigation of allegations of kidnapping and illegal detention by some members of the religious sect, that could be a problem for her come election day. Sources said the INC leadership will do everything to block De Lima’s election as senator.

INC is known to vote as a bloc. In 2001 elections, pollster Junie Laylo, then with Social Weather Stations, said “The INC’s vote strength is only about 1.2 million or 3% of the total electorate, but with a conversion rate of 68-84% that translates to about 800 thousand to 1 million votes for senatorial candidates endorsed by its leadership.”

That was in 2001. It can be presumed that the numbers have increased in the last 14 years.
“ As a solid voting bloc, INC votes can be very influential in helping borderline candidates for the Senate,” Laylo said.
But the recent controversy showed that the religious sect being a “solid voting bloc” is now in doubt.

De Lima just have to campaign very hard to overcome the INC’s lack of support. Election history has shown that there are candidates who have won without INC support.

There are a number of new and not-so-new senatorial aspirants who deserve to be in the Senate. I’d like to mention Neri Colmenares, Lorna Kapunan, Susan Ople, and Risa Hontiveros.

Also former Police Chief Ramon Montaño.

Despite the presence of clowns, we have a good list to choose from.

Politics: What do you think is the greatest achievement of Obama?

How can a conservative appreciate him?

Posted by Raghavendran Thilla Balasubramanian

This is a bit of a trick question when applying the idea of how "a conseervative" (rightwing extremist is the GOP norm these days) can appreciate President Obama, partly because the GOP has attempted to SABOTAGE this nation's first man of color elected to the White House (read Robert Draper's 2012 book: "Do Not Ask What Good We Do: Inside the U.S. House of Representatives").

There are a few websites that reveal the many achievements of President Obama, among them:
whitehouse.gov and recovery.gov
FOIA.gov
politico.com's Obameter

On The PCTC* Blog, there is an itemized list of 122 achievements by President Obama in his first term, some of which include the following from his first months in office:

Called for audits of all government contractors: Http://1.usa.gov/dUrbu5
Froze White House salaries his first week in office: Http://on.msnbc.com/evJUIx
Cut spending by phasing out unnecessary and outdated weapons systems, and also signed the Congressional Democrats' "Weapons Systems Acquisition Reform Act" that seeks to end waste, fraud, overbilling, or abuse in the defense procurement and contracting system:
Http://bit.ly/hOw1tl and Http://bit.ly/fz8GAd

The U.S. Auto bailout took political courage on President Obama's part, but has proven to be a big success, saving hundreds of thousands of good-paying American jobs. The dollars lent for this bailout have largely been paid back with interest, and we did not lose a jobs-creating industry for a product that the U.S. Invented.

More jobs were created by the wise fiscal policies of the Obama administration and the Democrats in Congress in 2010 than the Bush/Cheney administration created their entire eight years in office:

I frankly think there are two underreported achievements that deserve more attention: (a) the Credit CARD Act of 2009 that eliminates predatory fees or double-dip shady billing practice by the nation's greed-driven credit card companies (see whitehouse.gov) and (b) The New START [Nuclear Nonproliferation] Treaty with Russia that was followed up by President Obama's Nuclear Weapons SUMMIT with 46 nations' leaders that was held in Washington D.C. At this important SUMMIT, President Obama was able to convince quite a few nations' leaders to GIVE the United States their weapons-grade nuclear materials (dangerous if these deadly materials should fall into the wrong hands) in order to have the materials DOWN-GRADED to fuel-grade, thus making the world a much safer place. Among the nations who participated in this downgrade were Chile and the Ukraine. Very important, but hardly any press coverage other than MSNBC's "The Rachel Maddow Show"…

Also: Ended the ILLEGAL war in Iraq as of December 2011; set up hiring programs for returning combat military personnel; located and gave the kill order for 9/11 mastermind Osama bin Laden and did so in a manner that got us mountains of information on al-Qa'eda operations; signed comprehensive health care and insurance reforms into law; imposed tariffs on Chinese imports of tires, steel, and eletronic plates in palatable doses (the Chinese leaders like to pout) to level the trading field for U.S. Manufacturers; reduced the deficit from 10.2% of our GDP to less then 5.1% of GDP in just one term; and the list goes on…and on…

MSNBC discusses the "Black Agenda" led by Al Sharpton. When's MSNBC's "White Agenda" on?

And the "Yellow Agenda"… "Brown Agenda"…."Rainbow Agenda"…

You have the white agenda 24-7. Whites are the majority. You neocons talk about blacks playing the race card but you guys are the ones who bring up race all the time and put black people down. Blacks are being left behind and unemployment rate for black is like 15.5%. You didn't even read your own link. You neocons need to stop being so racist and mean spirited. It is not led by Al Sharpton but Ed Schultz. The purpose of the discussion is to begin to develop a comprehensive agenda and action plan designed to address 21st-century issues and policies of significant importance to black people in the United States, as well as in other parts of the world. 文

Debating the Black Agenda, a panel discussion
Hall, Schultz lead a debate on black leadership in America

On Saturday, April 17th, msnbc will carry portions of the National Action Network’s panel discussion titled “Measuring the Movement: Black Leadership’s 12-Month Action Plan.” The panel will feature prominent black leaders from across the US who will pledge to further critical issues impacting black Americans over a 12-month period.

The discussion, led by Rev. Al Sharpton, the National Urban League’s Marc Morial, BET personality Jeff Johnson, NAACP President Ben Jealous and radio host Tom Joyner, among others, is scheduled to air from 11am-1pm ET.

On Sunday, April 18th, msnbc will present a live panel discussion on the topics from the convention from noon-2pm ET. MSNBC anchors Tamron Hall and Ed Schultz will host the forum, diving in-depth into topics from politics, business, civil rights, education, and more as they pertain to black Americans.

Msnbc will ask the tough questions: What is the black agenda, and do we need one? Do President Obama and other black officials owe the black community anything? What can the black community do to help itself? How does the black agenda help to further the overall American agenda?

Why did Rev. Wright say that Obama's famous 'race speech' was just a typical political maneuver?

Wright is on a "rehab" tour, which will obviously spin-off into a book deal & other media goodies. What he means is Obama had to say what he said due to the politics of this nation….Obama has to play the game by the rules that others set if he wants to be president.

Names of animation films with political messages?

Animated feature length films that contain subliminal or obvious political messages or metaphors… Such as Animal Farm, Antz etc. If you know any/can think of any that would be relevant please let me know… Its for a dissertation on the political significance of animated films.

Thank you!

If you consider ecological messages (or the consequences of failing to address the mounting pollution problem) then Nausicaa is a good example. It also deals with the horrors of war but there have been countless numbers of films that have done that.

What are some examples of political message in film?

Most Michael Moore films have political messages but then they are in the style of documentaries. Then you have movies about actual political events like 'Bobby' about the events leading up to the assassination of Senator Robert Kennedy … Then there are movies like 'The Quiet American' which deal with the politics of war … And movies like 'Good Night and Good Luck' about the politics of McCarthyism in the 1950s … Probably one of the earliest silent movies which had a political message was Charlie Chaplin's 'The Little Dictator' and even his 'Modern Times' … Enough … ?

What is a political message?!?

I have to do this assignment for civics, and i have NO clue what a political message is! It says " from your day-today experiences, identify one of these polital messages adn write tow paragraphs about it"
please help me! What is a political message? And can you please give me an example?

- thanks. :)

Today is easy for this.
Political messages are what people say that want to be elected.
Presidents the major at the moment, one wants to tax you, the other says he does not need to tax everyone.
One says health care is for rich only, the other says he wants everyone to have health care.

Easy, just pick a topic you like and writing will be easy, maybe read both side and tell the difference and what you think will work.

You have to be careful what news you watch. Much is in the tank for Obama.

Fox news.com, they lean to the right, but do tend to show both sides.

Why does the politic section hate on fox news so much?

Kinds of headlines IN NEWS?

Just remember this: You get more bias from liberal news than conservative news:
-12/08 Zogby poll on which is the most trusted news source: FoxNews 39%, CNN 16%, MSNBC 15%. The most trusted news personalities: Rush Limbaugh 13%; Bill O’Reilly 10%; Chris Mathews 2%. Web news is the most trusted, more than TV and print news combined.
-9/09 Pew poll, 1985 to 2009, on how public perceives media bias: 60 percent say the press is politically biased; 50 percent say it’s liberal; 22 percent say it’s conservative; 27 percent gave no answer.
-6/15/10: Rasmussen poll on who the media supported in ’08 election: 51% said Obama; 7% said McCain.
-1/10 Public Policy Poll, a Democratic leaning pollster, found that Fox News was trusted by more people than ABC News, CBS News, CNN, and NBC news.
-1/27/10 Guardian, UK, on Nielson poll, wrote: "Fox most trusted news channel in U. S.”: Fox News 49%, CNN 39%, ABC 31%, CBS 32%, NBC 35%.
-11/4/10 Washington Post: “Fox News Channel towered over its cable news rivals on election night, attracting more viewers than CNN and MSNBC combined.”
-10/22/06 London Evening Standard: BBC CEO Grade caught on tape recording admitting that BBC is far Left, guilty of promoting Left-wing, anti-Christian, pro-Muslim views; promotes multiculturalism; gives no moral weight to America or rural folks; BBC Diversity Chief wants veiled female reporters.
-6/17/07 Daily Telegraph: The BBC has failed to promote proper debate on major political issues because of the inherent liberal culture of its staff, a report commissioned by the corporation has concluded. Says BBC director general Mark Thompson: "In the BBC I joined 30 years ago, there was, in much of current affairs, in terms of people's personal politics, which were quite vocal, a massive bias to the left."
-11/18/10 huffingtonpost.com: Democrat Senator wants FCC to shut down Fox News.“During a committee meeting on Wednesday about television retransmission consent, Senator Jay Rockefeller (D-WV) veered away from his prepared remarks to take aim at both Fox News and MSNBC: “More than just retransmission consent ails our television markets. We need new catalysts for quality news and entertainment programming. I hunger for quality news. I'm tired of the right and the left. There's a little bug inside of me which wants to get the FCC to say to Fox and to MSNBC, "Out. Off. End. Goodbye."

And as to the Master Spinners?

-Walter Cronkite, speaking at the UN in 1999: "It seems to many of us that if we are to avoid the eventual catastrophic world conflict we must strengthen the UN as a first step toward a world government." And all those years I thought he was just reporting the news…
-Dan Rather, speaking on CBS Evening News, 6/17/87: “Despite what many Americans think, most Soviets do not yearn for capitalism or Western-style democracy.”

Help! I need a current event for politics from the last 6 months?

I need two articles, one on any type of politics or how young people arent invlolved in politics, and one on anything that has to do with Democracy or the house of representatives or petitions for abortion. Anything along those lines, and they have to be from a trustworthy thing such as CNN orvWashington Post. Please help!!! My future basically depends on this.

You could go to CNN.com and start searching headlines. Zimmerman can easily provide you enough material to write several pages. There is an article on there right now about the Marijuana debate, which is a good example of how young people only get involved in politics when it's something they can relate to. Workers rights is a hot topic right now. Etc., etc.

Headline CNN news story worries me?

Im findign mafia axcitvitiy in the media i have found this story its full of mafia code:

"It's not a subjective point that most of the mainstream media has not liked media mogul Rupert Murdoch or his News Corp. Empire, and for a very long time.

Part of this is based on competition and his company's success, but part of this is based on ideology and his conservative politics given the generally liberal disposition of the mainstream media (see here and here for just two examples of many reports on the media's liberal bias over the years).

Rupert Murdoch's organizations have run against this tide — in part to combat it and in part as a culturally and business-oriented effort to provide another angle, a different disposition, an additional ideology."

(It's) It's (MURDoch or his News Corp. EmpiRE) MURDER. ITS MURDER!!!!

Also. Look at this: I found the letters I IKIL UOY whichs vacan be made to i kill you!!!

I need to report cnn to the police but the police refuse to take my concerns.
