Akamai Q1 2015: PH has 2.8Mbps average Internet speed

Akamai recently published their State of the Internet Report for Q1 of 2015, showing the Philippines with an average Internet speed of 2.8Mbps.

According to Akamai, the Philippines has an average speed of 2.8Mbps for Q1 2015 (2.7Mbps in Q4 2014) which places it at a Global Rank of 104 or 13th among the 15 countries on the list. See table below:

In terms of average peak speeds, the Philippines still has a long way to go at 20.3Mbps (21.9Mbps in Q4 2014) with a Global Rank of 94. Akamai notes that the Philippines is the only country that posted a decline when it comes to quarter-over-quarter changes at -7.4%. See table below.

Singapore, Hong Kong, and South Korea still maintain their lead when it comes to Internet connection speeds among both the surveyed Asia Pacific countries/regions and the world.

Average Internet Speed in PH Increases, Now at 2.7Mbps

The average internet speed in the Philippines has now increased to 2.7Mbps, according to the latest State of the Internet report published by global cloud enterprise Akamai.

According to the report, the Philippines’ average internet connection speed for Q4 2014 saw a 0.2Mbps spike, a 8.6% quarter-on-quarter increase, and a 38% increase from the same period last year. The increase didn’t manage to move the country that much on Akamai’s Asia-Pacific countries list, as it still belongs to the three slowest along with Indonesia and India.

Similar the previous quarter’s report, South Korea still managed to stay on top despite a 12% decline from the previous quarter with an average of 22.2Mbps. Hong Kong and Japan are also included top three spots in the list of Asia-Pacific and global lists of countries with the fastest internet connections, averaging at 16.8Mbps, and 15.2Mbps, respectively.

The country’s average peak managed to increase as well, now at 21.8Mbps from 21.3 last quarter. Broadband adoption showed a slow progress, as Akamai reported only a ten percent increase from Q3 2014.

Internet users who are using broadband connections above 10Mbps and 15Mbps also decreased by 21% and 17% from the previous quarter, but are still higher when compared to the same time last year. Meanwhile, broadband users using connections above 4Mbps have increased by 11% from Q3 2014.

Overall, Akamai stated in its report that the global average internet speeds remains virtually unchanged at 4.5Mbps, with an average peak of 26.9Mbps.
