Kris Aquino sells Chanel, YSL, Celine etc. in annual bazaar

The ‘ber months are here before we know it and it’s the bazaar season folks!

At about this same time last year, I wrote about how presidential sister Kris Aquino – the Queen of All Media – sold her Chanel bags and other designer stuff in a charity bazaar that was meant to benefit Gawad Kalinga, a non-profit that builds houses for the poor.

This year, as announced in her social networks, Kris is doing a repeat of the bazaar thing again. Her fans and lovers of pre-owned celebrity items can mark these dates (okay, it begins tomorrow already): October 11, 12 & 13 , 12 noon to midnight at the Metrotent, Metrowalk Plaza, along Meralco Avenue in Ortigas Center Pasig City. (Last year’s was held at the ABS-CBN Compound in Quezon City.

There’s no mention whether the annual sale will benefit a charity organization though.

Kris put Star Cinema creative director Roxy Liquigan in charge of organizing the bazaar. And here are some of the Krissy’s designer shoes for sale that Roxy put up on Twitter:

Some YSL’s (originally retailing at $500 to $1000). Kris is a Size 7.

There will also be some Jimmy Choo’s and Loubutins -

Other designers mentioned by Roxy are Chanel, Celine and Valentino.

The items are either brand new, used once or hardly used. And aside from the shoes, there will also be a sale of her bags and clothes.

Unfortunately, the prices won’t be known until the day itself. But feedback from a friend who visited the bazaar last year said the prices were still on the high side, so arrive with extra money in your wallet if you really want what you fancy :)

Here’s the official announcement that Kris put up on her Instagram & Twitter @krisaquino214 -

Miriam Quiambao is engaged: real men are pogi?

I’ve always admired Miriam Quiambao’s Filipina beauty, the kind that won her Miss Universe 1999 first runner-up honors. So it surprised me when I learned from my newsfeed that she’s engaged again/ slated to be married.

The guy: author & speaker Ardy Roberto. Research shows that his company is the one bringing John Maxwell to Manila for those inspirational speaking engagements.

Okay, first impressions stick. Am reminded of “don’t judge a book by its cover.” Miriam is a beauty queen…. and Mr. Roberto looks like your typical jolly, nice Filipino. Hmmm, comedian ang peg :)

Apparently, the guy is so well-liked in the Christian and speaking circuits. My former colleague Anjo Perez of Manila Bulletin says: “wow, he’s my friend…what a lucky girl she is.”

To this photo which she posted on her Instagram, Miriam wrote: “Went to visit Passages Bookstore in Bacolod at the The District mall. Found @ardyroberto’s books by the window! #AMventures7 #realmenarepogi”

It was a whirlwind courtship for the two.

Ardy adopted a child Joshua with his wife, the late Tingting Roberto who died only last January.

Last January?

Their Christian friends believe it is all a matter of “God’s perfect timing.”

Congratulations!

Tom Rodriguez + Dennis Trillo in Note 3 launch

A few nights ago, I attended the Manila launch of Samsung Galaxy Note 3 + Galaxy Gear which I’ve already written about in this post. The affair at SM Aura wasn’t really that star-studded but it WAS, in a way, because of two hot guys playing gays in local TV’s most talked-about show, “My Husband’s Lover.”

Presenting “Vincent”, “Eric” plus “Lally” 20 years later. hehehe.

Tom & Dennis

In my personal opinion, Tom Rodriguez had star factor. I wouldn’t be surprised if this guy will go places. And to think he just recovered from dengue fever in this pic.

Vincent: Look beh, we should be able to communicate easily with this Note 3. Just scroll around with the S Pen and it will take you from one app & icon to another. Just don’t get jealous if I keep photos of Lally and the kids. After all, they’re still a part of me.

Eric: ummm…. yeah…amazing!

Megan Young photos: the making of Ms. World

So Megan Young has done what Ruffa Gutierrez failed to achieve: win the elusive Miss World title. Of course, beauty is subjective and the judges’ tastes differ through generations, but Megan has the classic look and is easy on the eye. Most of all, she’s super articulate, thanks to her stint as an actress and TV host.

But I can tell from rummaging through her pictures that the beauty queen is uber down-to-earth and has a crazy side. Her Instagram and Twitter handle @meganbata is a play on her name.

One shot has her sleeping on the MRT, acting out the role of a tired student

…and then there are killjoys like this nincompoop who posted on Facebook. Behold, bigots are everywhere!

I am sure Megan’s win reverberated through Hong Kong, Singapore, Dubai, Saudi Arabia and other places where lowly-paid domestic helpers are found. It was one shining moment! It is not the Filipino workers’ fault that they continue to be paid pathetically small salaries because this world remains a political, capitalist place. It doesn’t reflect at all our Intelligence Quotient, Emotional Quotient, grammar ability or character as a race & people. Tsk, tsk…darn haters.

SHARE Africa and Amir Landsman Bring Hope to Kenyan Youth

In a land where medical supplies are scarce and one out of three people is infected with HIV, one organization works to ensure the future of the community. SHARE Africa, a nonprofit relief charity based in the United States, delivers medical attention, educational programs and social tools to disease-stricken villages in western Kenya.

Started in 1987 by Dr. Martha MacGuffie and Dr. Renée Brilliant, SHARE Africa has grown into an internationally recognized beacon of hope. One of their most critical projects, the SHARE Orphan Sponsorship program (SOS) has existed since 1993.

The AIDS epidemic has left hundreds of thousands of orphans throughout Kenya. A significant number come from Nyanza province near Lake Victoria. The lucky ones can move into a hut with a grandparent, an uncle or another member of the community. Sometimes, however, the closest relatives are unwell themselves or already support too many people.

Because the federal government offers little assistance, the extended family may not be able to take on the burden of another mouth to feed. Without the kindness of strangers, these abandoned children could face impoverished lives without permanent homes, reliable food sources or trustworthy guidance. Many move into larger cities such as Nairobi and then turn to lives of begging, thievery, prostitution and drug use.

SHARE Africa brings back hope by arranging for emergency food, shelter, clothing, healthcare, education and social services. The charity operates a standalone orphanage called Double Joy Farm, but the long-term vision involves serving more children in their local communities.

For $1.37 per day or $500 per year, SOS donors like Amir Landsman buy necessities for a single child. Most of the orphaned kids attend boarding schools during the academic year, so the sponsorship donation also pays for books, school supplies, uniforms and related expenses. This opportunity alone can alter the path of the future.

Nearly 10 percent of the students at the prestigious Our Lady of Orore Boarding School have been sponsored through SHARE Africa. The school teaches kids from the first through eighth grades, but they accept only about a quarter of the children who apply. Many of these students go on to high school and even college. They learn how to take care of and support themselves during the toughest of times.

In addition to the 100 residents of Double Joy Farm, Amir Landsman and other concerned Americans have already sponsored 225 orphaned Kenyans. More than 40 boys and girls have already been welcomed into the program but still need assistance.

SHARE Africa approves sponsorship applications from individuals, churches, businesses, clubs and other groups. The nonprofit asks sponsors for a one-year commitment for each child, which may be renewed for as long as necessary. Sponsors receive periodic updates about health and school progress, and many communicate directly with letters, photographs and gifts. While an SOS sponsorship can never replace the gentle touch of a parent, such an inexpensive gesture leaves a lasting impact on a child who needs it most.
