Oppo R5 Quick Video Review

Oppo has a phone running on an octa-core CPU with 2GB RAM, paired with a 1080p AMOLED display and an amazing steel build that comes only at 4.9mm – the Oppo R5. But does it have what it takes to take on the competition? Is it worth the price?

The Oppo R5 packs a lot of things that make it a really good buy. It has a good mix of specs all around, not lacking in any department except battery and storage – as it only has a non-removable 2,000mAh battery and a non-expandable 16GB ROM.

However, those are the compromises made when you want to create a phone this thin – and it’s an amazing feat, since not a lot of things were sacrificed aside from those two and the lack of a 3.5mm audio jack. A lot of elements from the Oppo R5 remain great – from the 1080p AMOLED display to performance of the Snapdragon CPU and the Adreno GPU that never stuttered in our use.

Now the only thing we need to debate about is if we want the skinned Android 4.4 KitKat dubbed Color OS hanging around, as it makes the device fast and simple to use, but it’s also quite ugly and lacking in functionality.

benchmarks

Benchmark scores (not included in the video):

  • Antutu – 28,587
  • Quadrant – 16,743
  • Nenamark 2 – 54.8 fps

For the price of Php21,990, the Oppo R5 is a good buy if you want an unbelievably thin phone that comes with mid-tier to high-end specs.

But if thin isn’t really a priority, considering the high price, maybe you can save a little more for a flagship phone instead, since the Oppo R5 is having a hard time justifying its price.
