Nokia rolls out Lumia Cyan update

Nokia has recently announced that it is rolling out the Lumia Cyan update across all supported devices in the coming weeks. The update is touted to bring a plethora of new features to Nokia Lumia handsets such as Action Center, Cortana and Wordflow just to name a few.

In addition to what was listed on our previous report, the Lumia Cyan update will also further improve Nokia’s imaging-centric apps like Creative Studio, Story Teller and Nokia Camera. Furthermore, Lumia 1520 and Lumia Icon users will benefit from an enhanced audio quality on their video recordings courtesy of Nokia Rich Recording and Dolby Digital Plus 5.1 sound.

As an added bonus, the Lumia Cyan update will also bring Living Images feature to Lumia 1520 and Lumia Icon which will further boost its camera performance by improving its low-light capabilities and adding continuous autofocus and RAW DNG support.

Do note that the Lumia Cyan is not only meant for Nokia’s high-end smartphones. Users who rock an entry-level and midrange Lumia handset will also benefit from the upgrade because they can upgrade their local HERE Drive app to the revamped HERE Drive+ free of charge.

The global roll out of the Lumia Cyan update has commenced last Wednesday and will automatically hit all supported Nokia Lumia devices running on Windows Phone 8 in the coming weeks. Below is the list of devices that will be getting the said update in the country.

Nokia Lumia 930, Lumia 630 images leak

Successors to Nokia’s Lumia phones last year are coming soon as notorious leaker @evleaks has just posted images of the upcoming Nokia Lumia 930 and Lumia 630.

Nokia Lumia 930 1

Starting with the Lumia 930, you can see that they rounded it off and incorporated a much more recent design language. To note, nowhere to be seen is a yellow color variant which they used excessively on last year’s model. What we have here are four colors, a dual-LED flash, a chassis that looks aluminum + polycarbonate and a 1080p display, judging from the amount of content displayed on the screen.

Nokia Lumia 630

For the Lumia 630, we can expectedly see that the design looks simpler than the high-end Lumias. No LED flash is to be found on the back, and we’re not sure if those buttons up front are capacitive or on-screen (the bezels look really thick for it to be capacitive buttons).

We still have no accurate details on the specs and the releases of the certain phones above, so you have to stay tuned for more updates.

Nokia Lumia 925 is now official, L920 on steroids

Following the release of the Asha a couple of days ago, Nokia announces a new flagship phone – the Lumia 925. The phone is every bit of the Lumia 920 but better. It has 4G LTE, an improved aluminum frame and a few software additions.

Starting off with the display, Nokia has abandoned the IPS LCD of the 920 and opted for a ClearBlack AMOLED panel. The size is retained on 4.5-inches, still with a resolution of 768 x 1280.

NL925

The back of the phone is the same polycarbonate, but the side frame is made out of aluminum. Nokia has turned the thick and heavy Lumia 920 into a sleek piece of hardware – from 10.7mm to 8.5mm and from 185g to 139g.

The phone will come in monochrome colors, meaning the bright colors that we love on the Lumia phones can only be accessed through a purchase of sleeves. Wireless charging can only be enabled through that too.

Nokia is also trying to catch-up with camera software. While Windows Phone has it’s own plain camera app, Nokia tops all of that with Smart Camera – which will feature Best Shot, Action Shot, Motion Blur Shot & so on.

Nokia Lumia 925 specs:
4.5-inch 1280×768 ClearBlack AMOLED display
1.5GHz dual-core Snapdragon Krait CPU
Adreno 225 GPU
1GB RAM
8.7MP PureView camera
with 1080p HD video (low-light, image stabilization)
1.3MP front-facing camera, 720p
Windows Phone 8
4G LTE
2,000mAh, non-removable
8.5 mm (thickness)
139g (weight)

Pricing is $616 before taxes, which is around Php25-26k. The Nokia Lumia 920 landed months ago for a price of Php27k, so expect the flagship update to take its place, creating a price drop for the 920. Since the new Lumia features LTE, we can hope & expect that the local telcos will offer it.

Apparently, we weren’t able to see the rumored 41MP Nokia “EOS” running Windows Phone, which is quite disappointing. Nevertheless, will it be worth the upgrade? Did the Lumia 925 impress? Leave your comment & your opinion down below.

Color Psychology: What your phone color says about you

We have those simple dilemmas with picking the color of your phone. However, it is said that these choices are either conscious or subconscious. These little things might have a lot more meaning than you think. Let’s have a take on the things we aren’t aware of, shall we? Read on to see what your phone color might say about you.

color

It was phones like the iPhone that brought white into the mainstream and the Lumia that brought bright vibrant colors to the spotlight. Moreover, people are starting to become more expressive, and we are becoming less aware if the little things. Nokia Conversations posted an article on the meanings of phone colors and we confirmed it with other sources. Take a look at what these colors say about you.

  • Red is for people who enjoy taking action. These are the ones who are passionate and bear strong emotion. It could also express excitement and youth.
  • Orange symbolizes optimism and warmth. These people are friendly, warm and confident. *cough* people who like Yugatech *cough*
  • Yellow shows optimism for the most part. It’s somewhat close to orange on the spectrum, and it says that these people possess warmth.
  • Green only highlights one thing -growth. These people could be the ones who enjoy development & peace on a lot of aspects.
  • Blue gives the impression of trust, loyalty and integrity. The color goes for the people who are dependable.
  • Purple/Indigo unveils vision, idealism, creativity & imagination.
  • Pink/Magenta goes to the people of love and nurturing – no, not just women. These people could be deeply emotional or are just feminists.
  • White shows completeness, purity & perfection. However, it also shows sophistication.
  • Ah, black, the color of most phones. Just how most people keep treat their phones, it shows that they have something hidden, secretive and unknown. They enjoy being shrouded by mystery and they really like having security.

There are a lot more colors, but we decided it wasn’t much to pay attention to. You can do your own search on this if, for example, your phone is colored gold.

Back in the days, we have black, gray, bronze and other dark colors as our choices. It was only recent that we had different bright colored choices. Even colors such as white weren’t even abundant back then. Now, if you have one of those generic looking phones, you can just go and buy yourself a case.

So, did it match for the most of you guys? What are your says on this? There’s a reason why technology is holding onto these color schemes and try not to go far beyond the horizon with rainbow-themed gadgets. Our devices become an extension of who we are, and simple things like the color could tell a lot about ourselves.
