Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9 finally gets ICS

Back in July, we reported that some Samsung devices will be updated to Ice Cream Sandwich. It’s been a long time coming, but Samsung GT-P7310 users can finally bid Honeycomb goodbye as their beloved device gets updated to Android Ice Cream Sandwich.

GT-P7310

When almost every Android device is being updated to Jellybean, Samsung has just released the ICS update for the GT-P7310 via OTA and Kies. Now if you’re a proud owner of this tablet, you may look at it as an insult or just be thankful that Samsung has not totally forgotten about your device.

The update started rolling out in Malaysia since last week and is set to reach other parts of the globe in the coming weeks, so don’t forget to check your tablet.

Smart offers Nexus 7 for Php14.4k on WiFi Plan 599

Smart has posted an announcement for the pre-order date of the Google Nexus 7. The telco will start accepting subscribers on November 30 and will ask them to sign-up for SmartBro FlexiSurf Pocket WiFi Plan 599.

Once signed up for FlexiSurf WiFi Plan 599 (50 hours per month), you will be able to get the Nexus 7 for only Php600 per month for 24 months at 0% interest. That puts the price of the Nexus 7 at Php14,400.

This is the 32GB WiFi model we reported to you earlier here. While the tablet is unlocked, you are tied up to the data plan for 24 months.

“From November 30, 2012, you can pre-order the Nexus 7 from flexisurf.smart.com.ph,” said Smart Broadband Internet and Data Services head Lloyd Manaloto.

“Simply sign up for a Smart Bro Flexisurf Pocket WiFi plan 599 and you can own this amazing tablet at 0% interest for just P600 a month for 24 months—even without credit card,” Manaloto said.

So, your total cash-out is basically Php1,199 per month for 24 months.

No word from Smart when they will offer the 3G model but my sources from Asus tell me it’s going to be in 1st quarter of 2013.

The 32GB Nexus 7 is also being sold in retail stores for Php13,995.

You can read our full review of the Nexus 7 here.

Drivers in the Philippines, Malaysia, Thailand, Singapore and Cambodia will have another reason to enjoy their journey as Chevron and Bosch come together to offer customers premium car care services for all of their motoring needs. The mutual exchange of world-renowned automotive know-how, together with energy-efficient technology, will see the roll-out of Bosch Car Service workshops and retail shops at 500 Caltex stations across the five countries over the next five years.

Chevron, marketer of international energy brand, Caltex, and Bosch a leading global supplier of automotive parts and diagnostic equipment, will tap on each other’s respective technical expertise and customer base. The Bosch Car Service workshops at Caltex service stations will provide services to multibrand vehicles offering diagnosis, maintenance and repairs. Caltex Lubricants and Bosch Automotive Aftermarket products and parts will also be sold at Caltex service stations where Bosch Car Service workshops are located.

“A multitude of factors contribute to an enjoyable driving experience and maintaining one’s vehicle tops the list. Our partnership with Bosch demonstrates the commitment from both companies to provide customers with the best experience on the road. Our motorists will benefit from the combination of Bosch’s automotive engineering expertise and our long-standing energy efficiency solutions,” said Peng Xiaofei, Vice President, Asia Pacific Products, Chevron. “We look forward to this collaboration with Bosch and believe this will be the start of a strong and fruitful partnership.”

“With the expansion of the Bosch Car Service footprint across Southeast Asia, motorists will appreciate the accessibility of a diverse range of reliable, quality automotive maintenance and repair solutions with the proximity of Caltex service stations,” said Martin Hayes, President of Bosch in Southeast Asia. “Furthermore, our Bosch Car Service network partners can look forward to new business opportunities and a great diversity of product offerings backed by a global network, long-standing experience and world-class technical competencies in the automotive sectors from both companies.”
