Microsoft to fix random restart on WP8

It was recently brought to the attention of Microsoft that some early adopters of Windows Phone 8 handsets have been experiencing random reboots ever since they got their device. But that’s about to change according to the Redmond-based company.

WP8

In a statement given by Microsoft, the company mentioned that they are aware of the bug which causes the handset to reboot randomly and is currently working on a fix. The said fix, according to the software giant, will be applied via an over-the-air update that will be released next month.

The company didn’t mention what caused the issue or when exactly the update will be released. We’ll keep an eye on this and we’ll give you an update about it.

Lenovo outs P770, packs 3500mAh battery

Folks, we have another biggie from Lenovo. This time, they decided to up the ante by packing their latest brainchild, the P770 with a whopping 3500mAh battery.

As some of you may know, the P770 comes from a reputable lineage of smartphones with enormous battery pack (P700 and P700i). But unlike its predecessors, the P770 has a slightly bigger screen at 4.5-inch with a slightly better resolution (960 x 540).

This Jelly bean handset sports a dual-core 1.2GHz processor coupled with a gigabyte of RAM and a standard 4GB internal memory which can be expanded up to 32GB via Micro-SD. It also has a pair of cameras, 5MP on the rear and VGA at the front.

But the biggest story here is the P770’s 3500mAh battery which is said to last for up to 26 days on Stand-by or equivalent to 29 hours of talk time.

Lenovo P770 specs:
4.5” IPS qHD display 960×540 pixels, 244ppi
1.2GHz dual-core processor
1GB RAM
4GB internal storage
up to 32GB via microSD
3G/HSPA, dual-SIM, dual standby
WiFi 802.11 b/g/n
Bluetooth 2.0
GPS w/ aGPS support
5MP rear camera w/ built-in flash
VGA front-facing camera
3500mAh battery
Android 4.1
Dimension: 133 x 67 x 11.9mm
Weight: 161g

The Lenovo P770 is now available in China and retails for CNY1,699 or a little over PhP11,000. There’s still no word when the handset will land to our shores, but I can already smell some prospective buyers aiming to grab this unit once it does.

Android 4.2.1 update rolls out for Nexus 4, 7 and 10

A few weeks ago, the Android 4.2 Jellybean update was released for the latest Google Nexus devices. It was expected to add some improvements however, that update has caused an issue with the device’s Contacts app. To squash that bug, Google has rolled out the Android 4.2.1 update.

The update aims to fix the so called “December Birthday” bug that prevents a user to select the month of December for a contact’s birthday or anniversary. In addition, it also fixes Bluetooth issues that some users were experiencing. If this is the case, non-Nexus devices might just skip 4.2 and dive into 4.2.1 right away if ever an update should be released.

The Android 4.2.1 update is available via OTA. Try to check for updates manually on your Nexus if you didn’t get any notifications.

Man behind PureView, Damian Dinning, leaves Nokia

Damian Dining has been with Nokia for 8 years and now he has decided to leave on November 30.

Following the release of the Lumia 920 and the PureView 808, it was very surprising that he would leave Nokia. Dinning was responsible for bringing us such breathtaking innovations such as the 41 megapixel shooter and the 8.7 megapixel camera on the Lumia 920.

But don’t think just yet that he will be transferring to another mobile company. He states that at such a young age, he had been interested in two major thing, photography and cars; now, he decides to enter the field of automobiles, specifically, Jaguar Land Rover.

As he and Nokia would call it, the PureView 808 was phase 1, and the Lumia 920 was phase 2; both specialized at doing entirely different things. What would happen to phase 3 and so forth?

Well, the PureView team isn’t gone and it’s just a man less. After all, Nokia has a very strong foundation on R&D. Maybe sooner or later, PureView phase 3 might showcase a high resolution camera with oversampling, loseless zoom, image stabilization and low-light capabilities combined.
