Philippines is now the fastest-growing smartphone market in ASEAN

Philippines is now the fastest-growing market for smartphones in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations or ASEAN. According to International Data Corporation’s (IDC) Asia / Pacific Quarterly Mobile Phone Tracker, a total of 3.5 million smartphones were shipped to the Philippines in the 1st Quarter of 2016.

“While many of the more mature smartphone markets of the world already displayed signs of saturation, the Philippines smartphone market continues to enjoy robust growth owing to a relatively low smartphone penetration rate (30% in 2015), active local brand presence, and healthy consumer spending” – Jerome Dominguez, Market Analyst for Mobile Devices, IDC Philippines

Local smartphone vendors still contributed to the significant increase of sales in the Philippines, and budget phones priced under P3,500 lead the way. Popular smartphone retailers like Samsung and Asus have also been tackling the sub-PHP6K sector, IDC Philippine market analyst Jerome Dominguez said in an interview with Rappler.

IDC also advised vendors to continue to be innovative, and to improve product quality and after-sales support to continue the lead as the fastest-growing smartphone market in Southeast Asia.

Nintendo reveals Pokemon GO to be available next month

Over at Nintendo‘s Treehouse Live event at E3, the company introduced the Pokemon GO Plus device and revealed the rollout of the awaited game.

Let’s first talk about the introduced gadget — the Pokemon GO Plus. It is basically a Bluetooth wearable that pairs to your smart device wirelessly. Its main purpose is to notify you when a Pokemon is nearby (through vibrating and flashing a green light) so you wouldn’t have to keep on checking your smartphone.

Using it, players trainers  can also throw Pokeballs to catch wild Pokemons. The Pokemon GO Plus lights a rainbow color if you’ve successfully caught a Pokemon, and red when you’ve failed to do so.

Nintendo is looking to release this wireless device by July for $35 and, later on, confirmed that users would be able to load the game before the wearable comes out — revealing that the game will be available in a few weeks.

The company adds that the initial set of creatures are the ones available in Pokemon Blue and Red versions.

This game is hotly-anticipated due to the success of the earlier releases so we’re anxious to test it out and see if it lives up to its hype.
