Moto X vs. the world’s flagship phones; specs comparison

The Motorola Moto X is one of the tech industry’s worst kept secrets, and the hype has been everywhere since the day Google bought Motorola. Now that it’s finally official, let’s have a look on how it stacks up against the competition, especially since Motorola is calling the Moto X its future.

Motorola Moto X vs. Android competition

MOTO X VS THE WORLD

When compared to its Android counterparts, you’ll find that except for the light weight of the device, the Moto X can’t boast that much when it comes to specs; it has the smallest display among the bunch together with the HTC One & it’s the only device not running on a 1080p display & a quad-core CPU.

It runs 2GB RAM and an Adreno 320 GPU together with the competition, and while it may be running on just a dual-core CPU, the Moto X does feature two more cores for language and contextual computing.

The Galaxy Note 3, Optimus G2 and other phones like the Xperia Z Ultra are already on their way, and those things will pack a lot more power than the ones listed above. Is the Moto X even trying to compete?

Motorola Moto X vs Apple iPhone 5 vs Nokia Lumia 1020 vs BlackBerry Z10

MOTO X VS IPHONE LUMIA BLACKBERRY

Unlike its comparison to the Android superphones, the Moto X stands a better chance in a spec shootout with other platformers. While it might have the lowest pixel density, the phone packs the largest screen at 4.7-inches this time, and it has the most updated chipset and the largest battery.

Also, in a megapixel fight, the 10MP shooter easily overtakes the ones on the iPhone 5 and the Z10 (but then again, megapixels aren’t everything).

It’s also the thickest along with the Lumia 1020 at 10.4mm, but other than that, the Moto X doesn’t seem to fail when put side-to-side with its iOS / BlackBerry OS / Windows Phone rivals.

Conclusion

When put beside the big names in Android, the Moto X looks small, weak & underpowered on paper. However, if you put it beside other platformers, it finds itself above them in theory overall. What does this mean for the Motorola Moto X?

Well, great spec sheets don’t immediately translate to great sales and great experiences. The seemingly underpowered iPhone 5 takes a significantly huge share of the market when compared to most phones in this comparison, making them quite irrelevant. We guess the whole reason and story behind the Moto X isn’t the specs; it’s definitely more than that.

Besides, a 720p display on a 4.7-inch display isn’t that bad, is it? Not everyone needs a 5-inch 1080p display, but some might want that simple feeling of contentment for choosing their phone color combination.

Anyways, it seems like Motorola is trying to make a huge leap here, and they’re focusing on the North American market for the meantime; bringing the said phone here to the Philippines can be a problem, especially with all the customization options.

But even if the phone seems irrelevant to the Philippine market, at least we know what Google’s game is – it’s more about the experience now from here on out.

Motorola Moto X now official

Leaks, talks and speculation has made rounds in the internet for months now, and it’s finally official; the long-awaited Moto X phone from Motorola is now announced, and it packs a lot of software & hardware features from the new Google company.

MOTO X PRESS SHOTS

The Moto X features a 4.7-inch AMOLED display with a resolution of 720 x 1280, all encased in Motorola’s Magic Glass technology – forming a zero-gap transition between the front and the backplate. Powering all of that is Motorola’s X8 Mobile Computing System; a 1.7GHz dual-core MSM8960DT S4 Pro CPU, a quad-core Adreno 320 GPU, a contextual computing processor and a natural language processor – all doing different, separate and specific tasks.

It also has 2GB RAM, 16/32 GB internal memory and a 2,200 mAh battery. However, that’s not really the story here.

Being the first phone to be manufactured in the US, the Moto X runs Android 4.2.2 with Motorola’s near stock skin on top, and it has a lot of software features. For example, you can just say “OK, Google Now” even when the phone is on standby and the device will immediately respond. Also, when on standby, notifications will be displaying on the screen when you need it – not if it’s faced down or in your pocket; when you can see it. For a better understanding, you can check out the video here:

Just as the leaks indicated, the Moto X will feature a 10 megapixel ClearPixel camera which packs 1.4-micron-pixels, which means it can take in more light than other basic smartphones and more. The phone is also capable of 1080p video.

MOTO X

The Motorola Moto X will be available in a lot of colors; from green to red rear panels, black and white front panels and the customizable camera ring and buttons. Backplates made out of wood will also be available sometime in the future. For now, this is exclusive to U.S. carriers.

Motorola Moto X specs:
4.7-inch 720 x 1280 AMOLED display
Motorola X8 Mobile Computing System
1.7GHz dual-core MSM8960DT Snapdragon S4 Pro
Adreno 320 GPU
2GB RAM
16/32GB internal memory
WiFi
Bluetooth
GPS
NFC
10 megapixel camera with LED flash
2.1 megapixel front-facing camera
Android 4.2.2 Jellybean
2,200mAh battery
129.3 x 65.3 x 10.4 mm (dimensions)

The phone will be available for a contract price of $199, although it is reported that a Google Play Edition will be available via the Google Play Store soon, unlocked (hinted at a near $600). It is unknown if the phone’s customization options (or even the phone itself) will make it to local shores, since all the manufacturing is happening in the U.S.

Update: The phone is not meant to hit Europe. There is a low chance that the phone will be made available here by Motorola.

Motorola’s next flagship: X Phone Ghost leaks

Once again, EVleaks swoops in to give out images of what is reported to be the Motorola X Phone – the droid that is rumored to be revolutionary and a game-changer for smartphones.

The photos shown below reveal the device in a protective casing, possibly to conceal the real look of the device. There’s nothing much to see in front aside from the Motorola logo, the earpiece, the front-facing camera, and half of the display.

X PHONE

The back, however, is not enclosed in any kind of shell or protection and hints at a textured finish with a crisscross design. It is also reported to be made out of polycarbonate with 20 different color variants. Do note that this is still a prototype so some aspects of the phone can change before the official announcement/release.

XPHONE3

PhoneArena managed to get a lot of details too from their own source, and they’re pretty confident that it’s the real thing. The phone is likely to come out on all major US carriers, but there’s a possibility that an international version will be on the way.

The phone, codenamed Ghost, will be packing 32GB of internal storage, 2GB RAM and a 1080p display. The size is around 4.7-inches, though that is not confirmed. No MotoBlur on board, meaning the device will be running an almost stock version of Android with some slight customization. Other reports from the past also hinted at a very capable camera, so we still need to watch out for that.

After the Optimus G Pro, the Galaxy S4, the One and the Xperia Z, it looks like Motorola may be coming in to clash with the Android titans again.

More Motorola X phone rumors, runs Key Lime Pie

It’s been a long time since we looked at the rumor mill, and here we are again, hearing rumors of the non-Nexus X Phone from Motorola.

While the source isn’t as solid as the others, it has been dubbed plausible and up to a certain point doable. The rumors indicate that the phone will have a 5-inch edge-to-edge display with almost zero bezel. This means it may look similar to Motorola’s own Razr M, only bigger.

X Phone

Google’s efforts in buying Motorola could finally be made use of as the phone is expected to be announced at Google I/O. Last year, we had the Nexus 7 announced, and while this phone isn’t necessarily a Nexus – it is expected to pack the latest version of Android dubbed Key Lime Pie (5.0).

Motorola had 2 previous non-Nexus devices to run the latest of Android already, named Droid & Xoom. The company is also expected to add some very own software features.

Android 5.0 seems to be too much of an upgrade to 4.2. The last time we hit these numbers, we had hardware issues to attend to (3.0 for tablets, 4.0 for unifying tablets & phones). Perhaps we’ll see Android merge with Chrome OS; who knows? It’s not far from happening since Motorola has a past with laptop docks after all.
