Quanta Compute Plug: Mini PC Meets Power Adapter

When Intel launched the Compute Stick earlier this year, we knew that it’s only going to be a matter of time before the same principle is applied to other form factors. True enough, Microsoft have showcased new Windows 10 mini PCs that comes in all shapes and sizes, and one mini PC in particular has caught our attention is the Quanta Compute Plug which, as it name implies, is a mini PC in a wall plug form factor.

The design of the Quanta Compute Plug reminded us of the old and clunky power adapters that were so popular back in the days.

The difference here is that instead of having a wire running from the back that terminates male DC jack, the Compute Plug has female ports that comprises of two USB 3.0 ports and an HDMI out. And instead of getting power from the display it’s connected to like the Intel Compute Stick, the Quanta Compute Plug runs on its own built-in battery that charges straight from the wall outlet.

This Compute Plug can be controlled using a USB peripheral that’s plugged to any of the two USB 3.0 ports on the side of the device, or using a Bluetooth remote. And because this device will run Windows 10, users can also utilize Cortana to control the device with the help of a Bluetooth headset.

During the demo, Microsoft didn’t mention any details about the Quanta Compute Plug’s internal workings, it’s price or an estimate date of when it’s going to be released in the market.
