Lenovo Vibe P1m hands-on, first impressions

The third smartphone that Lenovo launched yesterday is the Vibe P1m, the less-powered sibling of the Vibe P1. The Vibe P1m sports a 5-inch HD display, MediaTek quad-core CPU, Android Lollipop, and a 4,000mAh battery.

You can check out our hands-on video of the Vibe S1, Vibe P1, and Vibe P1m below.

The Vibe P1m, although carrying a similar name of its more powerful brother, sports a different look. While the Vibe P1 is premium-looking, the Vibe P1m is more modest with its polycarbonate body yet looks and feels solid.

It has a 5-inch IPS display on the front with HD resolution which equates to a decent 294ppi. Situated above it are the earpiece and 5 megapixel front camera. Down below are three capacitive buttons for navigation.

Located up top are the microUSB port and headset jack, while down at the bottom are the speaker and microphone.

Like the Vibe P1, the Vibe P1m also has a OneKey Power Saver on the left. Found on the right are the volume rocker and power / lock button.

Flip it on its back and you will see the 8 megapixel camera, LED flash, and microphone. The backplate is removable which reveals the SIM and microSD card slots. The 4,000mAh battery, on the other hand, is non-removable.

On hand, the Vibe P1m is chunky like the Vibe P1 at a 9.5mm but lighter at 148g. It may not be eye-catching but it feels well-made, the chrome finish on the frame adds a nice touch, and it features a splash-proof nano coating which protects the device from rain and accidental spills.

Lenovo Outs a Toned Down Version of Vibe P1 with 4000mAh battery

The Lenovo Vibe P1 is quite the crowd pleaser with its impressive specs sheet and monster battery pack. So much in fact, that it overshadowed its smaller, yet equally notable sibling the Lenovo Vibe P1m.

Bluetooth 4.1 LE
GPS
USB On-The-Go Support
4000mAh battery with Quick Charge
Android 5.1 with Vibe UI v2.68
Colors: Onyx Black and Pearl White

Compared to its bigger brother, the Vibe P1m has a smaller and lower-resolution panel, half the amount of on-board storage and 20% smaller battery pack rated at 4000mAh, which is far from a pushover.

Other than those three differences, most of the Vibe P1’s feature set was carried over to the Vibe P1m, making it an interesting proposition at $160. It will ship a month earlier than the Vibe P1, and is slated to make its market debut starting next month.
