Did Apple Accidentally Leak the iPhone 5C Successor?

Apple has recently posted what seems to be a harmless advertisement on their online store for the new iPhone Lightning Dock. But among the photos that the company used to feature the new accessory may have revealed what looks like an iPhone 5C with a TouchID sensor.

Obviously, Apple’s misstep further fueled the speculations that the company may already be working on the successor of the iPhone 5C, especially since the company didn’t release a newer model alongside the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus.

Prior to the accidental leak, a couple of photos of the alleged next generation iPhone 5C’s rear housing were leaked online showcasing some minor design changes on the upcoming handset.

Although many believe that it is indeed the new iPhone 5C, an insider told 9to5Mac that it’s not and claims that it was just an “incorrect render”. Shortly after the news broke, Apple has taken down the TouchID-imbued iPhone 5C and replaced it with the correct picture.

Regardless of which side of the story you choose to believe, Apple should be really careful about this kind of thing because even the slightest detail such a fingerprint sensor could be spotted by prying eyes. Unless, of course, the company did this in purpose, which is also an angle that we can’t rule out.

Leaked Rear Casing Hints At An iPhone 5C Successor

There has been a steady stream of rumors hinting at the possibility that the successor of Apple’s plastic-backed handset may already be in the works. The most recent addition to the rumor mill is the leaked picture of a rear casing of what is believed to be the iPhone 6C which gives us a sneak peek of the alleged 4-inch handset’s posterior.

Looking at the side-by-side image posted by Future Supplier at distance, there seems to be no significant change on the rumored iPhone 6C’s design.

A closer look, however, reveals two minor design changes which include a redesigned speaker grille and an oval cut out near the camera as opposed to the round one on the iPhone 5C.

The oval cut out near the camera suggests that the alleged iPhone 6C’s flash unit may be upgraded to a True Tone flash. However, the shape of the flash cutout also suggest that instead of getting a single-LED True Tone flash units found on iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus, the rumored handset will have to make do with the dual-LED True Tone flash similar to the iPhone 5S.

Meanwhile, the iPhone 6C gets another row of speaker grille comprising of four holes. It’s still unclear if these additional holes will create better sound output or it will just add a few millimeters to the handset’s waistline as a result.

The Microphone on the right also got the same treatment, getting five additional openings laid out in two rows to probably complement the redesigned speaker grille.
