Did Apple Accidentally Leak the iPhone 5C Successor?

Apple has recently posted what seems to be a harmless advertisement on their online store for the new iPhone Lightning Dock. But among the photos that the company used to feature the new accessory may have revealed what looks like an iPhone 5C with a TouchID sensor.

Obviously, Apple’s misstep further fueled the speculations that the company may already be working on the successor of the iPhone 5C, especially since the company didn’t release a newer model alongside the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus.

Prior to the accidental leak, a couple of photos of the alleged next generation iPhone 5C’s rear housing were leaked online showcasing some minor design changes on the upcoming handset.

Although many believe that it is indeed the new iPhone 5C, an insider told 9to5Mac that it’s not and claims that it was just an “incorrect render”. Shortly after the news broke, Apple has taken down the TouchID-imbued iPhone 5C and replaced it with the correct picture.

Regardless of which side of the story you choose to believe, Apple should be really careful about this kind of thing because even the slightest detail such a fingerprint sensor could be spotted by prying eyes. Unless, of course, the company did this in purpose, which is also an angle that we can’t rule out.
