Launching in WWDC, Apple has finally unveiled the next version of their mobile operating system - iOS 8.

Following last year’s major redesign, iOS 8 comes as both an update and a polishing to Apple’s OS. • HealthKit for centralized personal fitness and health data
  • HomeKit for home automation
  • Quick access to important contacts
  • Family sharing

Event: Apple hosting WWDC 2014 this June 2

Taking place in San Francisco, Apple is gathering all developers once again for an event this upcoming mid 2014, June – their Worldwide Developers Conference, where they usually highlight and announce new Macs, MacBooks, operating systems such as OS X and iOS and of course, apps.

WWDC 2014

Observing the trend, we are guessing that this year, Apple could be announcing iOS 8, an update to OS X and if we’re lucky, slightly upgraded MacBook Pros & Airs. Recent news also suggest new apps are on the way – Healthbook, Preview & Text Edit. As for those waiting for the much rumored iPhone 6, you still have to wait sooner as no one thinks it’s launching this early.

iOS 8 gets an early preview

A week after seeding the the first major update since Apple launched the iOS 7, a handful screenshot have surfaced on a Chinese website (Weibo) which are claimed to be taken on an iDevice running on IOS 8.

Based on the leaked screenshots, it seems that not much have changed on the overall feel of the OS. However, what’s interesting with these screen grabs is that it gives us an early glimpse of some of the upcoming additions to the OS’ feature such as Preview, Healthbook and TextEdit.

According to 9to5Mac, Preview and TextEdit are intended for documents and PDF files, while Healthbook, as it name implies, will be an health-centric app that will take advantage of the M7 processor found on some of the newer iDevices.

It’s still too early to tell whether or not this will be the final look of the upcoming version of Apple’s mobile operating system. Of course, there’s also the question of how legitimate these screenshots are. That said, it’s safe if we take this with the usual grain of salt.
