Apple announced iOS 8.1 last Friday during the introduction of the iPad Air 2 and the iPad mini 3, now it is available for download on your iPhone or iPad.

iOS 8.1 brings lots of improvements and bug fixes to your favorite iOS device like new features in Photos, the ability for iPhone users to send SMS and MMS to the iPad and Mac, and the option to select between 2G, 3G or LTE networks for mobile data. Take a look at the image below for the complete rundown.

The update is available via iTunes or OTA. To check via OTA just go to Settings > General > Software Update. It’s a fairly small download if you’re already on iOS 8 (86.6MB on the iPhone 5c) but if you’re upgrading from iOS 7 you might want to read this article first (How to get the 5.7GB iOS 8 without erasing anything) as you’re most likely to start with a huge download.

Apple iOS 8.1 now official, will be seeded on Monday

Apple kicked off their event by officially announcing the latest iteration of its mobile platform, iOS 8.1, which features a few new improvements over its predecessor.

In addition to bug fixes and optimizations that are usually associated with these updates, Apple adds a few new software add-ons in the mix which include Continuity (an app that allows users to respond to messages on their Mac running on OS X Yosemite), Apple Pay and Secure Elements which is primarily designed for iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus.

The new software build will also include the return of “Camera Roll” which was axed during the iOS 8 update. But not only did Apple re-introduced Camera Roll, the company also revamped by adding a new app called iCloud Photo Library (Beta) which serves as backup or main storage option for pictures.

The new iOS 8.1 will be available for download to all supported Apple devices (see list below) through iTunes or via Over-The-Air update starting on Monday (or Tuesday in our local time).
