Philippine internet slowest in ASEAN, way below average

An infographic by ASEAN DNA claims to have recent data obtained between March and April 2014, and it compares the average internet speeds of countries around the world and those that are in the ASEAN. Results find that the Philippines is way below the average in Asia and in the whole world, and in the infographic, we are seen trailing as the slowest.

ASEAN INTERNET SPEED

Seen above, you can see that our average internet speed is at 3.6 mbps, while Singapore goes in at 61 mbps, topping everyone in the graph off. The average speeds of all the other ASEAN countries are at somewhere near 10 mbps while it’s at around 15 mbps globally.

If the Philippines continues at this pace, it seems that our internet speed will be truly left behind despite the expensive costs when compared to our neighboring countries.

Google buys SlickLogin – uses sound waves, not passwords

There have been many cases of hacking Internet sites due to stolen passwords. What if your way of securely getting inside is by using unique sound waves? This is what SlickLogin is about, and they have just been bought by Google.

Source: SlickLogin

Source: SlickLogin

Presented around September last year, SlickLogin basically adds a new layer of protection for websites (like those related to banking) before successfully logging in to specific accounts.

What it does is it makes the website play a unique and inaudible sound through the computer speakers which the nearby smartphone picks up through its microphone. An app processes the generated sound and sends a signal back to the computer which verifies if the user is indeed authorized to log in.

Google is still keeping silent as to the amount SlickLogin was bought; and as of today, only the latter has announced this acquisition. There’s still no final date on its launch but we’ll keep you updated.

Would you feel safer logging in using this new security measure? Let us know your thoughts on the comment box below.

App Trending: the Flappy Bird game

I used to see people boasting their Temple Run scores all around the social media. Fortunately (or unfortunately), something replaced it already – Flappy Bird. It’s free, it has bad graphics, it’s insanely hard, it’s pointless and most of all, it’s frustratingly addicting.

FLAPPY BIRD

This is impossible.

The game simply involves tapping to flap the bird into flying. The goal is to get a high score without hitting the pipes and that’s it. As of writing, I only got 22 as my personal high score. Someone I knew gave me a tip to fly low rather than flying high.

You should try it out if you want to know what we mean. It’s free for both iOS and Android, in which you can download them here and here respectively. Feel free to tell us what you think!

Search ‘Doge Meme’ in YouTube to go Comic Sans mode

Google enjoys planting Easter Eggs into their products, and if you’re really good at finding them, they might amuse you even by a little bit. There’s Google Now’s Barrel Roll, YouTube’s Harlem Shake and now, the much very wow internet sensation doge is hiding in YouTube coding and design.

DOGE

It’s been there for quite sometime now. Just type in “doge meme” in the YouTube search bar and it will immediately bring you to the search results with a little twist; everything will be in such color and Comic Sans font styles, and it will stay that way until you leave YouTube and reenter it again. Nothing new in functionality though, but we just thought about sharing it with everyone for those not familiar with it yet, especially with all the doge craze around right now.

DOGE MEME

Doge has been attracting a lot of attention lately – there’s the digital currency Dogecoin and there’s this. Very creativity. Such Successful. Wow.
