Insular life SVP gets LOMA top student award

Insular Life’s Sr. Vice President and Chief Agency Executive Ramon M. Cabrera is being recognized as one of the Life Office Management Association’s (LOMA) Top Students for 2014.

Mr. Cabrera earned the highest average in required coursework for the Fellow, Financial Services Institute (FFSI) designation in LOMA’s Eastern Region. Aside from his FFSI designation, he also holds a Fellow, Life Management Institute (FLMI) designation, also awarded by LOMA.

FFSI is a 10-credit-designation program that provides broad contextual information through seven core courses focusing on mutual funds, investments, retirement plans and wealth accumulation products) LOMA is an international association for the insurance and financial services industry. It offers an employee training and development program used by more than 1,200 members in over 70 countries worldwide, including most of the world’s largest life insurance companies.

Every year, LOMA provides special recognition for the top students earning the highest grades in each of its fellow- and associate-level professional learning programs.

Insular Life wins 2 Philippine Quill trophies

Insular Life, the leading Filipino life insurer, was honored in the recently concluded Philippine Quill Awards for two communication initiatives that spotlighted unique Filipino traditions.

Insular Life received an Award of Excellence for its 2014 corporate calendars titled Mindcraft and Handicraft: Philippine Cultural Creations. The calendars, which won under the Communication Skills, Publication Design category, creatively used Filipino riddles, or bugtong, in its theme and layout. Each featured riddle, moreover, had as an answer a Filipino handicraft such palayok, banig, and papier mache or taka horse figures, among others.

The Communication Skills division recognizes not only excellence in the technical execution of communication skills such as editing and design. Entries that won under this division also displayed strong tactical skills in strategic alignment, creative process and measurable results.

The company’s Magandang Araw Movement, on the other hand, received a Merit trophy under the Communication Management, Advertising Campaigns category. “Magandang araw!” means “Good morning!” in Tagalog – a greeting which neatly captures the Filipino’s positive disposition. This has inspired Insular Life to integrate it into its branding and communication programs, among which is the Magandang Araw Movement. An online-based photo contest, the Magandang Araw Movement aims to catalyze a nation of positive thinkers by creating a platform where people can show how they live out and share happiness with others through acts of kindness for 365 days.

A win under the Communication Management division, Advertising Campaigns category means that a program has displayed topnotch strategic execution to build brand awareness, influence opinion, motivate audience behaviors, or sell products and services.

Organized annually by the local chapter of the International Association of Business Communicators, the awards night was held at the Crowne Plaza Galleria Manila hotel and was attended by the crème de la crème of Philippine business community.

Insular life announces executive promotions

Insular Life Chairman of the Board and CEO Vicente R. Ayllón recently announced the promotion of the following executives: Mundece L. Lu to first vice president, Katerina V. Suarez to vice president, Johanna C. Coronado to senior assistant vice president, and Atty. Analyn S. Benito, Adrian Joseph R. Fernandez, and Gwendolyn Kelley to assistant vice president.

Lu heads the Visayas – Mindanao Sales Division of the Company’s Sales and Marketing Group. As head of VisMin Sales, he oversees the Region’s sales, marketing and conservation activities. He graduated from the Ateneo de Davao University with an AB in Economics degree, cum laude, and he obtained his Master’s Degree in Business Management from the Asian Institute of Management.

Suarez heads the Actuarial Division and is concurrent head of the Actuarial Research and Product Development Staff. As head of Actuarial Division, she oversees the technical aspects of life insurance operations, including product development, valuation, and research. She graduated from the De La Salle University with a degree in BS in Applied Mathematics, cum laude. She is a Fellow, and currently the Vice President of the Actuarial Society of the Philippines. She is a Fellow, Life Management Institute (FLMI), awarded by the Life Office Management Association (LOMA).

Coronado heads the Brand Marketing Department, which handles product development, manages the product mix, and facilitates the brand building efforts of Insular Life. She graduated from the Assumption College with a degree in AB in Mass Communications, cum laude. She is an FLMI.

Atty. Benito heads the Compliance Unit of the Legal and Corporate Services Division. As head of the Compliance Unit, Atty. Benito oversees the effective implementation and management of programs that ensure compliance to laws and ethical standards. She graduated from the University of the Philippines in Diliman with a degree in BA in European Languages, and obtained her Bachelor of Laws degree from Arellano Law Foundation. She earned her designation of Associate, Insurance Regulatory Compliance from LOMA.

Fernandez belongs to the Group Marketing Division and heads its Strategic Marketing Team, which provides solutions to the personal insurance and investment needs of oversees Filipinos and their families. He graduated from San Beda College with a degree in BSC major in Business Management and Entrepreneurship and obtained his Master in Business Administration from the Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila. He is also an Associate, Life Management Institute awarded by LOMA.

Kelley is a business process manager of the Business Process Management Staff, which studies and reviews the Company’s priority areas of operations to ensure the effectiveness and efficiency of current methods and procedures practiced by different work units. She graduated from Miriam College with a degree in BS in Accountancy. She is a Certified Public Accountant, a Certified Project Management Professional and an FLMI.
