An early look into the HTC One 2

The HTC One is one of our most favorite smartphones from last year – it has amazing speakers, a great-in-low-light UltraPixel camera, a breathtaking display and a solid and sleek aluminum body. However, it faced tough competition and it didn’t reign supreme within the Android crowd.  The company’s next flagship phone is destined to arrive this year. Read on and join us as we take an early look at the possibilities, the rumors, the speculations and the leaks of the One’s successor.

HTC ONE TWO

Dual LED flash, similar design, better cameras

First of all, we’re not even sure if it’s going to be called the HTC One 2. It could be the HTC Two, or the HTC One 2014 Edition; who knows? But since most of the media is calling it the HTC One 2, let’s stick with that for the sake of this article.

HTC ONE TWO 480

Not going to happen. The early leaks are probably fake.

If we are to follow the earliest of leaks, then we’re inclined to believe that there will be a slight redesign with only an incremental bump in specs. There were 3D models that got out, an alleged backplate with cases and details that it will have a fingerprint scanner like the HTC One Max. We rendered a mock-up for everyone to appreciate (above) – and we have to say it looks ugly compared to the current HTC One’s design.

As we feel that the announcement is getting closer, more leaks and details are spilling out. Evleaks has managed to give us the HTC One 2′s stock wallpapers through Twitter, and they have also stated that the device will have on-screen buttons and will look very similar to the HTC One itself. An image of HTC’s on-screen buttons has already made its way to the internet, supporting the claim.

The another leak now on the other hand is consistent with one of the early leaks. It seems like on the image, the device is hosting not a fingerprint scanner, but actually what seems like another camera for better imaging. Apart from that, it’s also packing a dual LED flash. Sadly or not however, it’s called to be a fake.

HTC ONE TWO TWO

The HTC One 2 will probably have this wallpaper, on-screen buttons & BoomSound speakers.

One of the most recent leaks, and the most realistic one too, came in with a live shot of the alleged successor to the HTC One. It packs a strikingly similar design to the HTC One, only having on-screen buttons and the lack of the HTC logo itself upfront. That’s it.

HTC ONE 2 LEAK

Probably the real deal.

To summarize, it seems like the HTC One’s successor is aiming to fix the line’s weaknesses and retain its strengths. The HTC One 2 is poised to have the well-received zero gap unibody aluminum casing, a better set of cameras, BoomSound speakers, a larger 5-inch display accommodating on-screen buttons now and basically just better specs all around – likely Snapdragon 800, 805 or the like. What we don’t have a clue about though is in the screen’s resolution – 1080p or 2K and the phone’s expected battery.

With all of that said and visualized, are you excited for the next HTC One? Or would you prefer setting your eyes somewhere else this 2014? Tell us what you think in the comments section below.

YugaTech’s Top 5 Smartphones of 2013

For the past year, we had a great time of smartphone launches, demos, reviews & more. Before we enter 2014, the YugaTech team voted upon ourselves our very own top 5 smartphones for 2013 & we combined them with our readers’ very own best smartphones poll earlier this year. So without further ado, here are the top 5 smartphones for the year.

iphone5s-review

5. Apple iPhone 5S – five for five, Apple takes the award for refreshing last year’s iPhone 5 by adding an A7 CPU, a gold color option, dual tone LED flash, slow motion video, Touch ID & more. It ranked #4 in our readers’ choice poll and it would have ranked differently here too if only we didn’t favor better phones in this list.

4. Sony Xperia Z1 - up on number four, the waterproof Xperia Z1 tops with its premium build quality matched with high-end internals. The Snapdragon CPU will never cease to impress, plus Sony’s own camera is really one to marvel at. Apart from the display, there’s no reason why we can’t include the Z1 in our top smartphone list. After all, it ranked #3 in our reader poll.

2.5. DRAW: LG G2 & HTC One

Looks like we have a draw guys. Happening backstage, the HTC One was supposed to be our own choice for the top smartphone, but it didn’t rank so high on our readers’ choice poll. On the other hand, the LG G2 was supposed to be our readers’ top smartphone, but we preferred much more handsets than it. All of that made it result in a draw.

The HTC One is fast, sleek & is just drop dead gorgeous in all ways – the display is breathtaking, the BoomSound speakers are the best in the industry, the camera works well & Sense packs a very good UI paired with fast internals.

The LG G2 on the other hand is basically a champion all around the spec sheet, from the display & the camera to sheer performance. The buttons on the back may take some time to get used to, but nonetheless it offers that certain element of uniqueness to the device.

And our best smartphone of 2013 is…

It won’t come as a surprise to most people, but our best smartphone of 2013 is none other than the Galaxy Note 3! The device packs an amazing set of internals and is for the most part a no compromise phone from the 1080p display, the large battery, the camera that’s capable of 4K video to the 3GB RAM. Not to mention, stylus functionality works very well.

That’s it for our top smartphones this 2013. If you wanted to know, somewhere out there, the Lumia 1020, the Nexus 5 & the Galaxy S4 hanged before reaching the top 5. We can only wonder how different things will be next year; it’s a long wait for sure – but stay tuned for more to come this upcoming 2014!

HTC One with Windows Phone in the works

For the next half of the year, it looks like HTC has a lot planned. They have the Butterfly S announced, and we are also expecting an HTC One Mini. But moreover that, it is reported that HTC has another One variant on the way – running Windows Phone OS.

The device won’t look exactly like the One, but will have the same aluminum body. Also, Beats Audio & UltraPixel might find a way into the phone as well.

If the GDR3 update comes in time for the mentioned phone, then it might include some very impressive specs since the GDR3 update will allow support for 1080p displays and the like.

Following the Windows Phone 8S and the 8X, we have no idea on what it will be called. However, we’re guessing it could be the HTC Windows Phone One or Windows Phone 9X (8+1). Fancy?

HTC Butterfly S spotted with BoomSound

The HTC Butterfly was one of the first phones to pack a 1080p display, and now we might be seeing an update to it – the HTC Butterfly S.

BUTTERFLY S

Not much is known about the device as of the moment, but as you can see in the leaks above, it features a very similar design to the original Butterfly, only packing another set of speakers at the bottom – which probably hints at the HTC BoomSound feature.

Speculations say it might pack a Snapdragon 600 CPU with an UltraPixel camera, but that is yet to be confirmed.
