Google Rolls Out ‘Undo Send’ Feature On Gmail Web

If you’re a regular email user, then chances are that you’ve probably sent an email or two that you wish you could take back. Luckily, Google finally rolled out the ‘Undo Send’ for Gmail on web browser.

The Undo Send has been announced back in March 2009 and has since been part of Gmail Labs’ experimental features.

The feature will not retract email that you’ve already sent, instead it will give users a short window (depending on the length they chose) to double-check their email after hitting the send button.

The Undo Send function is disabled by default, so Gmail users will have to manually turn it on by going to Settings > General (tab) and ticking on ‘Enable Undo Send’ check box. In there, users can also select the cancellation period (5 seconds to 30 seconds) before the email is delivered. Be sure to hit ‘Save Changes’ for the action to take effect.

Gmail now allows starred contacts

Knowing your important emails and conversation on Gmail was practically done by starring it, a feature Gmail has for years. Now, Google’s mail client will bring you starred Google Contacts.

This feature has been around for Android devices already and it was nice to know that such feature will be incorporated with Gmail. As you starred the contact on Gmail, it will be automatically placed into the “Starred” group for quick access. A seamless experience awaits Android users as the starred contacts will sync with your phone, so starring a contact on your phone will show up on Gmail, and vice-versa.

Be sure to use your Google account to take advantage of this feature and more. It’s important to keep your contacts backed-up to the cloud.

Google+ connections now connected by default with Gmail

Google is expanding their social networking site Google+ so that more users will be in it but the new update will mostly benefit Gmail users.

Google started the connection between Gmail and Google+ already before but now it will be on by default. Yes, you might not use it but it is there. Starting this week, whenever you’re composing a new email, your Google+ connections will appear as suggested recipients even you haven’t exchanged email addresses yet.

If privacy is your concern, here is what Google informed Gmail users through their mandatory email announcement:

How it works with email addresses
Emailing Google+ connections works a bit differently to protect the privacy of email addresses. Your email address isn’t visible to your Google+ connections until you send them an email, and their email addresses are not visible to you until they respond.

Receiving email from people outside your circles
If you receive an email from someone outside your circles, it will be filtered into the Social category of the inbox (if enabled) and only after you respond or add them to your circles, can they start another conversation with you.

How to control who can contact you
You’re in control of whether people can reach you with a new setting in Gmail on the desktop.

It seems like Google is trying to sprinkle some professionalism to Google+. Perhaps a competition for LinkedIn?
