Globe switches UnliSurf to GoSurf in MySuperPlan

Last month, we reported that Globe is consolidating its mobile internet plans under the new GoSurf label replacing both PowerSurf and SuperSurf. Globe has denied it will phase out SuperSurf but it looks like they’ve actually started doing so this month.

In 3 separate conversations with Globe Customer Service on the phone over the week-end, we received multiple confirmations that the new default mobile surfing plans will now be GoSurf and SuperSurf is no longer offered in the plans.

Some of the new Globe MySuperPlan packages are as follows:

MySuperPlan 1799:
GoSurf 5GB – 999
Consumable – 800
Unlimited Calls & Text to Globe/TM – Php599
iPhone 5S 16GB – free

MySuperPlan 1799:
GoSurf 10GB – 1499
Consumable – 300
Unlimited Calls & Text to Globe/TM – Php599
iPhone 5S 16GB – free

Both plans will net you Php2,398 for the MSF and there’s some cash-out depending on the contract period and the type of handset availed.

When asked about the old SuperSurf plans, the CSR has stated that it has been phased out in favor of the new GoSurf offers. Old SuperSurf subscribers will not be swicthed to the new GoSurf plans. However, once old subscribers renew their 24-month contract, the new GoSurf plans will be offered instead of SuperSurf.

The 1GB/day or 3GB per month FUP on the old SuperSurf still remains, which makes the GoSurf at 5GB more palatable.

The new GoSurf plan is probably Globe’s way to address the FUP issue and clarify the bandwidth allocations for mobile internet by its subscribers (thereby adhering to the “truth in advertising” complaints a lot of subscribers have been hurling against them).

Globe offers free access to Spotify for GoSURF subs

In line with its successful local debut, Globe Telecom, Spotify’s exclusive partner in the country, will give GoSURF postpaid subscribers free access to Spotify Premium starting on Sunday, April 13.

Spotify is a music streaming service recently which was recently made available in the country and has a mobile app available on iTunes App Store, Google Play Store and for Windows Phone devices.

The basic service is free (with ads), but users can opt to upgrade their account to Premium for Php129/month which removes the ads and gives them more access to features and services that are not available on basic account.

However, Globe Telecom will be waiving the Spotify Premium fee off starting on April 13 and will give new and existing GoSURF postpaid subscribers access to Spotify Premium free of charge.

GoSURF Prepaid users, on the other hand, will be given a day’s worth of access to Spotify Free on their mobile device whenever they subscribe to the GoSURF 10. The best part here is that using Spotify will not eat up any of the 10MB data allowance that is given to them when they sign up for the promo.

Globe to drop PowerSurf for GoSurf

Some of the initial releases (Galaxy S5 and Spotify press releases) and sources close to Globe have confirmed that the telco will be overhauling their data plans — completely dropping both SuperSurf and PowerSurf promos in exchange for a unified GoSurf data plans.

We don’t have the complete details of the GoSurf plans but a few of them were also mentioned in their Galaxy S5 and Spotify pages.

GoSURF1010MB for 24 hours (free Spotify access, data not counted against quota)

GoSURF 299700MB for 30 days

GoSURF 9995,000MB for 30 days

It is likely that once you reach your 5GB limit for the 999 plan, you can just subscribe again for another 5GB after that or any of the lower-tier GoSurf plans.

The old PowerSurf plans were more expensive (Php99 for 50MB, Php299 for 300MB and Php499 for 1GB).

The new GoSurf is very similar to PowerSurf while SuperSurf will be completely removed from the offering. This concretely enforces the telco’s move to shift to volume based pricing instead of time-based charging (thus obliterating the whole issue on data caps).

Globe will probably make the formal announcement on Monday next week.

Updated: @talk2globe has tweeted that they will not discontinue SuperSurf plans to current subscribers. We’ve updated our story to reflect this.

Globe bares GoSurf at 5GB Mobile Internet + LTE

Due to that Unli-LTE or Unli-Data brouhaha from the last couple of months, there has been a lot of complaints regarding the Fair Use Policy implemented by Globe. To address this mis-information, it looks like they’re now calling it the way it should be.

So instead of the Unli-Internet or the Unli-Data being offered as a base service to mobile postpaid plans, they’re placing the data cap right front and center.

Hence, the previous Unli-Data which has been redefined by their FUP as 3GB of LTE then unlimited access to the 2G network is now a standard.

Subscribers will be offered a GoSurf plans which is basically 5GB of LTE plus unlimited access to the EDGE network after the allocation is consumed. It’s still basically unlimited access to their data network, only that you’ll be transferred to the slower network once you’ve consumed 5GB of data.

This move has been bared along with the announcement of the full Samsung Galaxy S5 postpaid plans.
