Nintendo’s first smartphone game to be called Miitomo

We’ve been expecting Nintendo to join the wagon of developing apps and games for smartphone devices. And now, they have announced their first smartphone game — Miitomo.

miitomo

According to Wall Street Journal, the game will be released by March 2016. It will be the first out five smartphone apps that Nintendo plans to release a year after. It’s a free-to-play game with in-app purchases, just like most titles in the app stores.

With Miitomo, you’ll be able to create or your own avatar or miis and use them to communicate with other users. Nintendo’s popular characters will also come to the game in the future. With these features, the title seems to pose itself as a communication app rather than a mobile game.

A new service called Nintendo Account was also announced. It will connect its consoles with PCs and mobile devices. Users will be able to transfer data through a cloud based service.

Nissan turns Gran Turismo 6 car into real-life supercar

During the Goodwood Festival of Speed in UK, Nissan unveiled the real-life version of the Concept 2020 Vision GT that was originally set to be a supercar for the game Gran Turismo 6. It is a complete and detailed version of the in-game racing car right from its ventilated hood down to the four-wheel drive chassis.

This futuristic-looking automobile is part of Gran Turismo 6’s “Vision Gran Turismo festival” that invites car makers to share and build a concept car to be used in-game as a downloadable content. Mercedes Benz, BMW, Mitsubishi, and Volkswagen have all submitted their own concept cars so far, and this Nissan-built racer will be the next to appear in July.

The Concept 2020 Vision GT is a product of Nissan Design Europe led by Taisuke Nakamura and Nissan engineers in Japan to make sure that the vehicle looks exactly like the one to appear in the video game.

“It’s a new styling challenge without any constraints or boundaries. It was purely a design challenge from outside to see how much we can go further to achieve an attractive design,” said Nakamura.

To those fans of Gran Turismo 6 and those who became instant fans of this supercar, you’ll get the chance to sit behind its steering wheel once it makes its appearance in the game next month! Are you ready?

Play This: The 2048 Game

Here’s another addicting game that may hook you up; 2048 is a math puzzle game that will have you combine two similar number tiles into one until you come up with a 2048 tile, but unless you have the right skills and logic, it’s going to be a tough ride.

2048

You are given only limited space at the beginning of play with only tiles of 2 and 4. With that, you will have to work your way up to 2048 with new tiles coming up every swipe. If you can’t, you can at least compare your scores with other people to add a competitive flavor into the game.

You can play it on the desktop (web) while there are lots of other derivatives and versions on iOS, Android & Windows Phone app stores.

Pugo! the Pinoy Flappy Bird, #1 on Top Charts

Talk about Pinoy pride, the Flappy Bird-inspired Pugo! ranked first in App Store’s Top Charts for free games. It has only been released less than a week ago, and positive reviews have already been flooding its page.

Update: According to co-creator Camy Cabral, Pugo! will be available for Android devices in two weeks as they are still currently working to fix the game’s laggy movement.

pugo

Pugo! was created by Manila-based couple Patrick Cabral and Camy Cabral. They are designers and artists who tried their luck making their first game app. Luckily, it was received warmly by people.

Same mechanics as Flappy Bird apply to Pugo! — tapping the screen to make it fly and dodge obstacles. In this game, you are a small pink quail that avoids trees while roaming around the forest. There’s also a happy background music which makes everything light and jolly.

The couple added a new element to the game which I think (former) Flappy Bird players will love: Extra lives! Watch out for Philippine flags and collect them as they save your quail’s behind when it crashes.

Pugo! is now available for download in the App Store. We will try to get in touch with the creators and ask if the game will also come to Android devices.
