Samsung launches W2016 – a Galaxy S6 flip phone

Samsung releases rather quietly its W2016 smartphone which sports a design that took its cues from the Galaxy S6 — only in the form of a clamshell. It also comes with some beefy internals under the hood.

The Samsung W2016 still has no price that came with the announcement but was reported to be coming to China. There are no news if it will be sold elsewhere but with its unique form factor and elegant design, we could see a demand in certain markets.

You would want to see this iPhone flip phone

While most of us have already completely embraced the touch method of today’s smartphones, the Japanese apparently still is in love with the old-school flip phones’ form factor. This is why artist and industrial designer Martin Hajek created this Flip iPhone concept that fuses Apple’s software on a clamshell body.

Here’s how Hajek thought of the concept:

Over in Japan people are still crazy for these so-called ‘garakei’ phones; the huge flipphones which have been around for ages. Despite the iPhone’s huge popularity in Japan the Japanese just can’t get enough of these mobile monstrosities. Presenting the garakeiPhone! Probably too difficult to engineer but still – a fun project to do … and hopefully see. :-)

With that said, take a look at more photos of the iPhone flip phone.

The question now is this — If given the chance would you want to have one?

Sharp unveils high-end and flagship AQUOS phones

Sharp introduced its first phones for the year and they are the high-end AQUOS mini and the flip phone AQUOS K which is the flagship model in its kind. They both carry capable specs and are blessed with the company’s signature designs that we approve of.

The AQUOS mini sports a 4.5-inch display with 1920 x 1080 resolution. Inside, it’s run by a Snapdragon 801 CPU with Android 4.4 KitKat, shoots through 13MP rear and 1.2MP front cameras, and is backed up by a 2,120mAh battery that promises two to three days on a single charge thanks to the company’s IGZO screen technology. Just like other AQUOS models, the mini will inherit their sexy slim bezels that we’ve always admired about the company. Available in blue, white, black, or pink, each model has a cloak of protection which gives it a waterproof design.

The flagship flip phone, AQUOS K, is also fitted with a good bunch of specs. Flip it open and you’ll be greeted with a 3.4-inch LCD display, a quad-core processor clocked at 1.2GHz, a 13MP rear camera as well, 1,410mAh battery, and a waterproof design just like the AQUOS mini. It will be available in black, white, and red colors.

No pricing and availability were released along with the devices but as the source puts it, it looks like it’s limited to Japan as of now.
