Activate ATM Withdrawal Notifications with BPI

The Bank of the Philippine Islands (BPI) is now letting their client manually enroll their accounts for ATM withdrawal notification.

As a measure to protect clients from alarming unauthorized ATM withdrawals from BPI machines, wherein culprits can know your PIN by replacing the keypad on the ATM, BPI offers ATM withdrawal notification through Email or SMS. You will receive an instant notification via email or text message if an amount of 5k, 10k, 15k or 20k is withdrawn from your ATM. You can set your desired amount during your registration.

If you have a BPI account, just simply follow the step indicated on the photo above. While this may not stop any further ATM skimming, it’s better to have registered for ATM withdrawal notification to monitor your account. We are yet to know if the notification feature also applies with debit transactions.

NTC sets 256kbps as the minimum mobile broadband speed

The National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) plans to set a minimum speed of 256 kilobits per second (kbps) for mobile broadband. The minimum speed is the same as the fixed broadband services like DSL, fiber, and cable.

The definition of mobile broadband as stated by NTC are “any device that has the capability of accessing mobile networks, and whose inherent design enables it to be portable and is not inherently designed to be located permanently or semi-permanently.” This includes pocket Wi-Fi, USB dongles, and smartphones & tablets with data connection.

With the 256kbps set as the minimum, GPRS services are already not considered to be a mobile broadband service as its speed can only go as high as 114kbps. NTC will conduct Internet test speeds of local ISP for mobile broadband before the 2016 national elections in May.

With the increasing adoption of 4G LTE with cheaper LTE-capable devices, what can we do with 256kbps nowadays?

LG introduced its own laptop in the form of the LG Gram 15 (15Z960). This sleek laptop sports a Carbon Magnesium and Lithium Magnesium body, 15.6-inch Full HD display, 6th-gen Intel Core processor, up to 8GB RAM, up to 256GB SSD, and Windows 10 64-bit. It is priced at $1,499.

Samsung Notebook 9 Series

Along with the Galaxy TabPro S, Samsung also unveiled its newest additions to the Notebook 9 series for 2016 – the Notebook 9 15-inch and Notebook 9 13.3-inch. These laptops are powered by Intel Core i7 processors, up to 8GB RAM, up to 256GB SSD, and Windows 10. It comes in Iron Silver and Modern Pink colors. Price is TBA.

HP EliteBook Folio G1

HP’s thinnest and lightest notebook to date is the EliteBook Folio G1. It measures 12.4mm thin and weighs less than a kilogram. It features an aluminum body with a 180-degree piano hinge, 12.5-inch Full HD display, Intel Core m5-6Y54 dual-core processor, 8GB RAM, and 128GB SSD. Price starts at $999.

Acer Aspire V Nitro “Black Edition” with Intel RealSense Camera

Acer took the Aspire V Nitro, upgraded its internals, installed an Intel RealSense Camera, and painted it black. The result is the badass-looking Acer Aspire V Nitro “Black Edition”. Yesterday we showed you a list of gaming laptops that made an appearance at CES 2016, this time, we’re going to take a look at the 2-in-1 Convertible category. Take a look at our top picks below.

Samsung Galaxy TabPro S

The Galaxy TabPro S uses the same concept as Microsoft’s Surface Pro line. It features a tablet form factor but with notebook specifications like a 6th-gen Intel Core M processor (Dual Core 2.2GHz), 4GB RAM and 128GB / 256GB SSD. It comes with a full-sized keyboard that also doubles as a cover. Samsung is also making available for separate purchase a multi-port adapter (HDMI, USB Type A & C) and Bluetooth Pen. Price is TBA.

Lenovo Yoga 900S

Representing Lenovo’s Yoga line is the Yoga 900S. This notebook doesn’t have a detachable keyboard but it sports a special and stylish 360-degree watchband hinge, as seen with the Yoga Pros, allowing it to bend into different modes. It sports a 12.5-inch QHD display, 6th-gen Intel Core M processor, and Windows 10. Price is TBA.

HP Spectre x360 w/ OLED display option

HP introduced a refreshed version of the Spectre X360 and equipped it with a 15.6-inch 4K Ultra HD display, 6th-gen Intel Core i5 or i7 processors, optional Intel Iris graphics, up to 16GB RAM, up to 512GB SSD and quad front-firing speakers custom tuned by Bang & Olufsen. Toshiba’s dynaPad was first announced back in October 2015 but it was in CES 2016 that the Japanese company announced that it is now shipping the 12-inch WUXGA 2-in-1. The dynaPad sports an Intel Atom x5-Z8300 Processor, 4GB RAM, 64GB eMMC, and Windows 10 Home. Price starts at $649.99.

Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Yoga
