DOST to put up 50,000 Free Public WiFi starting 2015

The Department of Science and Technology is looking to set up over 50,000 free public WiFi hotspots nationwide. This is based on their proposed budget of Php3 billion for next fiscal year.

The initial roll-out will start in 2015 and will include thousands of public school buildings, hospitals and medical centers, government structures and public spaces including the whole MRT, LRT, airports, sea ports and train stations (PNR).

DOST’s Public WiFi Program initially had a proposed budget of Php338 million but this was later increased to Php3 billion.
