6 Best-Looking Smartphones of 2015

The end of 2015 is fast approaching and just like before, we try to round up some of the best of what the year had to offer in the tech scene. For this article we compile the best-looking smartphones in terms of physique and build quality, regardless of their specs and performances.

ASUS Zenfone 2 Deluxe

zenfone-2-deluxe

Being the top-tier variant in the wide selection of Zenfones, the Deluxe features tessellated triangles on its back cover that show off a crystalline look. This variation in angles makes it possible for the panel to somewhat change in the shade of color depending on how the light strikes them. We’ve had it during the review and people we’ve come across couldn’t help but ask about it — definitely an eye-catcher!

BlackBerry PRIV

blackberry-priv-hero

Say what you want about BlackBerry only trying to make an attempt for a comeback but the PRIV is a looker in our book. Having its rear panel made out of a material similar to carbon fiber, it has a matte finish that repels fingerprints away — maintaining its neat composure.

Plus, its unassuming design with all black color and hints of silver make it perfect for business use — an established BlackBerry trademark. We’ve had the chance of having a hands-on experience with it and you may check out our first impressions by following the link.

Huawei Mate S

huawei-mate-s

Huawei carried out the same design from the Mate S series and incorporated some details from the Huawei P8 as well. It’s like they combined the best features of the P8 and the Mate 7 to create the Mate S, with the front looking like the P8 and the rear reminding us of the Mate 7.

It’s made up of a single, solid aluminum alloy body with downward sloping edges that make the handset appear quite thin — maxing out at 7.2mm. It has an edge-to-edge display which always appears favorable. If you look closely, you’d notice that the edges were intricately designed to have a hint of a curve just before the metal body starts. Gone are the days when secondary player devices don’t concentrate on the looks. Check out our review through the link.

LG V10

lg v10_4

LG’s current flagship device that followed the G4 is looking sharp in every angle. Starting from the very prominent back, it has a textured, silicone-based material laid out for added grip but also gives off a unique presence for onlookers when placed on a table, for example. The sides have been equipped with solid stainless steel that presents itself as sturdy pillars acting as the frame for the device.

It has a tall body but compensates for it by being really slender so it still doesn’t look bulky. Click on the link for the full review.

Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge+

Samsung-S6-edge+

Samsung is one of the first smartphones to venture into the curved display scene and with the Galaxy S6 Edge+, the South Korean giant proved that they can produce a smartphone with great performance and a killer design.

It has a 5.7-inch display that curves outward on both sides, and is encased in a premium metal chassis. This makes it look like the phone houses a floating screen once held and used. In addition, the front and back panels of the handset is reinforced by Corning’s Gorilla Glass 4 to protect the display from scratches and even drops. We have the full review through the link.

Sony Xperia Z5 Premium

xperia-z5-premium

We’ve always been a fan of the Xperia’s overall form factor. It may be boxy, but it’s evident that high-class materials were used. The same goes for the top-of-the-line Z5 Premium with its entirety covered with a reflective metal available in more than one color.

It has a unibody design that goes well with its cornered edges and although it basically looks the same as other high-end Xperias, you’d definitely know that you’re looking at the Premium when you see it from afar. We have our first impressions during our short time at its launch.

That rounds up our list for best-looking devices for this year. What are yours? Feel free to share them down at the comments section below.

5 Best-looking Cars that Arrived in 2015 (Philippine Edition)

Buying a car is similar to buying a new smartphone: we usually consider looks as much as we consider the specs. So for this article we’ve shortlisted the top 5 best-looking cars that we saw for this year. The vehicles on the list are those that were launched and priced locally.

2016 Honda Legend Sport Hybrid

2015-honda-legend

Introduced as the company’s flagship sedan, the 2016 Honda Legend Sport Hybrid was launched during the latter part of the year and is the world’s first Sport Hybrid Super Handling All-Wheel Drive (SH-AWD). It is also the Japanese automaker’s second hybrid in the country next to the CR-Z.

What initially got our attention to include this on this list is its set of Jewel Eye LED headlamps that not only accent the front of the vehicle positively but also display the intricate work and design they implemented when you look at them up close. These pair of head lights flank the fin-like grates which Honda calls a Solid Wing Face grill.

This is only the base model we’re talking about and buyers could choose to purchase the Legend with either MUGEN or Modulo kits. Some of the things you could modify it with are carbon fiber front low spoiler, 20-inch aluminum wheels, and a ducktail spoiler. There are many more additional parts available which you could check out during its launch event.

The all-new Legend is priced at Php4,380,000 and is already available in dealerships.

2015 Ford Mustang GT

ford-mustang-gt

The sixth-gen Mustang made its official debut in the Philippines early this year and with it comes the legendary design that this muscle car entails. The signature trapezoid grille up front continues its unwaning presence and just above it, the wide hood stands out which is then compensated by a short, fastback design at the rear.

Rear fenders are extended which make them noticably wider. This gives more emphasis to its three-dimensional, tri-bar tail lamps. Featuring a reduced, wider stance and lower roof, the Mustang GT looks ready to gallop everytime the gas pedal is stepped on.

Standing on 19-inch aluminum wheels, the Ford Mustang GT is tagged at Php2,999,000.

2016 Lexus GS F

2016-Lexus-GS-F

Freshly-launched just last November, the 2016 GS F is Lexus’ newest model adding to the sport sedan that’s locally available. This top-tier performance sedan touts some updated accents up front and at the back. Compared to its previous iterations, it’s got well-poised headlights with the signature L-shaped daytime running lamps and refreshed bumpers complete with carbon fiber front lip, revamped spindle grille designed to enhance aerodynamics and internal cooling, and more prominent and efficient air outlets.

When you’re following the GS F on the road, you’ll be seeing its chromed trapezoidal tailpipes situated on both ends of the bumper. The rear is also decorated with a trunk lid lip spoiler also made of carbon fiber. Overall, the vehicle is lower and wider than other models in the GS lineup which dictates a sportier stance on its forged 19-inch alloy wheels.

The Lexus GS F is priced locally at Php7,588,000.

2015 Mazda MX-5 2.0L SkyActiv

2016-mazda-mx-5-miata

Applying the same KODO design that’s present in their previous models, Mazda’s 4th-gen MX-5 looks ready to take off at any given moment. Its overall design language is as minimalistic as it could get — long, sloping hood that ends with the company’s logo, a pair of sleek headlamps kind of resembling a cat’s eyes, and the company’s grille flanked by pockets that positively accents its front fascia.

Leading lines are what make up the body which present the car like a piece of moving art. The rear has a small space to work with, but Mazda has effectively planned the layout giving us a pair of circular tail lights and subdued signal lights.

Being a convertible, the vehicle’s soft top further adds a unique appeal as you don’t normally see them on Philippine streets. It already is a looker with its top on, but cruising on open air simply draws more attention if you ask us. As for the wheels, it sports a 17×7-inch alloy rims.

MX-5-2015-2 MX-5-2015-9 MX-5-2015-17

The base model for the 2015 Mazda MX-5 retails at Php1,680,000.

2016 Nissan Juke

nissan-juke-hero

Released in the Philippines early last October, the Nissan Juke got a lot of heads turning with its fresh design. This crossover SUV has Nissan’s own ROBIOTIC design concept wherein the mechanical and living (hence the robiotic term) body are combined to come up with a masculine yet agile exterior plus a precise and dynamic interior.

Although it has that new design, the company still had some of its trademark look carried over to the Juke such as the V-motion grille that was seen with their other models like the X-trail, Navara, and Altima that we previously tested.

The front features three segments where the lights are installed. Flanking the hood are the boomerang-shaped daytime running lights and a pair of signal lights, while mounted at the bumper are the main headlamps. Lastly, the vehicle’s fog lights are situated down below.

Dominating the front is the windshield that stretches all the way up to the roof where it descends going to the rear. This design confirms that the Juke is a crossover which continues all the way to the back to its tailgate.

Populating the back are tail lights that positively accent the vehicle that, for us, give it an edgy yet reserved look. Its rear bumper also does away with a plain design and highlights a textured panel on both ends that convey a more sporty message to onlookers. Finally, the Juke stands agile on 17-inch alloy rims.

The 2016 Nissan Juke will be on sale starting January 2016 with an SRP of Php980,000.
