Crumpler flagship store in Manila now open

If you’re wondering where the biggest Crumpler store is to satisfy your fixation, check it out at the spanking new East Wing of the Shang-ri La Plaza Mall in Mandaluyong City. Worth checking out is the unique interior design, specially created for Crumpler by award-winning Australian architects Ryan Russell and Byron George.

Crumpler Store

In time for the Shang-ri La East Wing opening, Crumpler Philippines also launched the new Outpost Project series of bags as well as two new bag models: the Ludicrous Debacle and Proud Stash.

The Outpost Project is a series of bags made especially for mobile gearheads. While each bag looks different, they are all characterized by their distinct combination of classic hiker ruggedness and outdoor street style. Each Outpost Project bag has pouches and zippered pockets which makes it highly functional.

Inspired by the rugged nature of traveling, Crumpler has named each Outpost Project bag after cities and places that are visited by only the most hardy of travelers. Hence, you have camera bags named Cobram (Australia), Kashgar (China), Sebang (Malaysia), Aso (Japan), Karachi (Pakistan) as well as our very own Tondo (Philippines).

Started in 1992, Crumpler was the product of a young man named Stu Crumpler. Stu was an avid beer drinker and transporting cans of beer using his bike was slowly becoming a heavy chore. The first Crumpler bag was created for the sole purpose of being a beer container which worked quite well. Not soon after, Stu Crumpler’s highly durable “beer” bag caught the attention of a bike messenger company owned by Will Miller and Dave Roper who commissioned Stu Crumpler to reengineer the beer bag and make it into a backpack for their bike messengers. It was a complete success as the bags prived to be not only durable, but also practical and comfortable to use. Driven by a shared passion to create the best bags for bikers Stu, Will and Dave started their own business making and selling their own line of bags which was appropriately named “Crumpler”

The other Crumpler stores in Manila are located at Bonifacio High Street, TriNoma, Robinsons Magnolia.

Crumpler Ultimate Exit bag review

By now, I’ve used a wide array of Crumpler bags – from backpacks to laptop bags and even pouches. But I have to say this Crumpler Ultimate Exit – which looks like a gym bag, more than anything else – is close to my heart. I lugged around thing in my mountain trip to Sagada last December and felt the unbearable lightness …. of travelling :)

crumpler ultimate exit

Blame it on the fact that this bag is only made of the lightest materials. I have to say though that the Ultimate Exit’s outer appearance is an eyecatcher too. The light blue piping on the dark blue main body is quite attractive. It is definitely something you can carry around with confidence, whether you’re wearing casual jeans or your sturdy gym sweats.

Zipping open the bag reveals a spacious interior. The main compartment, measuring approximately 29 liters, definitely has ample room for sundry stuff like a pair of shoes, towel, clothes and what-have-you. Aside from this, there are three internal stuff pockets for storing little things like gadgets or those which you don’t want to lose in the clutter. One of the pockets even has velcro closure for easy handling.

I can see that a lot of thought has been put by Crumpler peeps into this simple-looking “duffel” bag. The carry handles are padded with EVA foam and were formed to fit the natural contours of the hand and fingers. The outer layer of the bag consists of water-resistant materials. The detachable shoulder strap with buckles and velcro fasteners is a nice touch since it gives you an extra option in carrying the bag. Since it’s light, I had no problem holding the bag by hand.

The Crumpler Ultimate Exit is, overall, a versatile and durable bag that I wouldn’t mind owning and recommending to friends with a budget for this kind of bag.In fact, since this is just a review, I felt a little heartache when it was time to return the bag since it’s the kind which grows on you ;)

Sold for P3,750 at the following Crumpler Stores: Trinoma, Bonifacio High Street, SM Megamall, Robinsons Manila & Robinsons Magnolia

Review: Crumpler Vegetable From Inside the Mountain

me with crumpler

Zoom in! That’s moi with my favorite travelling backpack at the moment, the Crumpler Vegetable From Inside the Mountain. I don’t know why some Crumpler bags have these really long names but I’ve used this label long enough to appreciate the quality and thoughtfulness that goes with each product. In the case of this bag in review, I really like it for its use of light materials which doesn’t make carrying it a big burden.

This is the front view of the bag with all three components. There’s a sizeable pouch for holding shoes , shirts or whatever you like and a small purse for holding such things as make-up and keys. I love it that they included the mini-bags for better organization of one’s stuff. Clutter is what this busy bee doesn’t want :)

Here’s a shot of the bag’s gray interiors showing my 13-inch Macbook fitting snugly inside. This portion is secured by a flap with velcro fastener and apart from this, there’s also a side pocket for added protection. For such a small-looking bag, the interiors were surprisingly spacious. I can think of a few other things to stuff this bag with, aside from your puter: shoes, clothes and books!

So far, the only discomfort I’ve experienced with this bag is that the zipper tends to get stuck in the material when I opened or closed the backpack but other than this, this Crumpler bag is perfect by me.

The Crumple Vegetable From Inside the Mountain has a retail price of P5,950.00 from the following Crumpler stores in Metro Manila: Crumpler Bonifacio High Street, Crumpler Robinsons Ermita, Crumpler Megamall and Crumpler Trinoma.
