HP unveils Chromebook 11 G5 that’s said to last for 12.5 hours

HP outs a new Chromebook touting a simple yet pleasing design and, of course, running the latest Chrome OS from Google.

Chromebook 11 G5

The HP Chromebook 11 G5 sports an 11.6-inch HD IPS display with narrower bezels than its predecessor and also a lighter weight for portability. You can opt for a touchscreen or just a simpler traditional panel and get longer battery life in return — 12.5 hours according to the manufacturer. It’s powered by an Intel Celeron N3060 processor clocked at 1.6GHz. You can also choose either 2GB or 4GB of RAM and 16GB or 32GB of flash storage for the configuration.

The notebook will be initially available through selected partners by July, while a wider release is scheduled in October, starting at $189 or roughly Php 8,900 when directly converted.

Google Play Store coming to Chromebooks

Chromebook users have something to look forward in the coming months as the Google Play Store is heading to their notebooks and will have the compatibility to run Android apps on their desktop.

Having the Play Store on your Chromebook will further the productivity of your notebooks plus the ability of playing popular games. Just imagine Clash of Clans on a big screen and better controls. Since the apps from the Play Store are designed for smartphones, their could be some minor adjustments, but tablet apps should work pretty well.

The same apps that run on phones and tablets can now run on Chromebooks without compromising their speed, simplicity or security.

The update for the Chromebooks is first slated to arrive this June but with Acer Chromebook R11, Asus Chromebook Flip, and Google Chromebook Pixel (2015) only. Others have to wait for a later release. To check out if your device is listed, head over here.
